Both reels for Film "D" of Nintendo Wild Gunman (1974) are in the process of being preserved.

Here's hoping that "thefairshot" will share the results of the film preservation with emulation developers!

Fantastic work here - I'm looking forward to seeing this reel preserved. Like you and gregf, I too have bright memories of playing this game with my Dad at a slot car racing arcade at a beach boardwalk back in the day. Such a fascinating game and so much different than the Pong and Shark Jaws machines that were there at that time. I hope the other reels will surface one day too.

Really unexpected item for 2021, but glad it happened.

If there is an asking price for being able to purchase a restored film reel, I am interested.
Whatever it takes to make it worthwhile for ‘fairshot’ ‘s time and efforts in the restoration work.
I hope the restored work can also be treated in a film cell reel format
in hopes the data can be treated as film reel format instead of
some mpeg video file. Trying to emulate or simulate the gameplay likely
requires the video data being treated as a film reel instead of some
mpeg video format. The game’s mechanics won’t work with mpeg imo.

Unfortunate timing on my side now that my desktop computer hard disk crash.
I had my pdf WG manual on the computer, but I know I should still have
a pdf of the file. Mr Do might a file himself because he did the scanning
in 2005 iirc

btw….this is the best of the film reels imo.

If only Orc were still visiting and posting here. Orc
might be ecstatic as well.

What!?….no Gals Panic 2 related messages from other posters? *kidding*

Anyway, you can credit some varmint critter chewing up
landline telephone wiring that disabled DSL connections
which prevented desktop access for online usage which
was usual route of sending messages in the past.

Things will eventually get fixed. I am fortunate enough to
still be able to browse via handheld device for now to see
more support for Universal games, Sun Electronics games,
and the earlier led Mattel electronics handheld games such as
Football 2.

This film reel news update is impressive. Granted there are
obstacles of WG having a long shot of being emulated, but
seeing a film reel being preserved by itself is terrific.

I wish Antny and Orc were still around or visit later. The film reel D
with ‘cowboy bast on water tower’ as described by Orc is exactly
what Orc has been looking forward to seeing and hopefully
playing in the future. Orc would be a happy camper if he saw these
updates with film reel D.

Orc also played this at someplace in UK when game
first arrived there in mid 70’s (probably Orc’s age at that time too…kidz)

Probably be some group consortium needed in order to
track down other film reels. I am guessing the film reel D
that is being preserved was probably in decent shape to begin with.

As I posted earlier, I would be interested in buying a restored
copy in case film reel reprints can be made for a price. If buying a copy
for contributing for future usage in MAME, I am in.

Did someone say Wild Gunman manual? new [Re: Stiletto]
#393475 - 03/08/22 05:21 AM

This isn't the guy mentioned in the original post of this thread, tho! Instead, thanks go to "Jumpman1981".

[EDIT] And I am finally having the issue here where I cannot attach the file because "all of the required fields have not been filled in." Maybe I can finally figure that out this time... Oh well, the link above is working, for now.

As mentioned, there was a different scan that was done by Mr. Do back in 2005. Iirc the pdf file scan was uploaded here on MW forums two different times. The file was maybe downloaded a few times iirc when file was an attachment at the time when it was on the MW forums in 2005 and maybe around 2009 iir I was looking to upload the WG pdf file again for last year, but my desktop computer hard disk stopped working in mid summer 2021. I know I should still have the pdf file and maybe Mr Do still has the same file as well since he scanned the manual in 2004 or 2005. I will see if I can find and upload again or better yet if Mr Do somehow returns and find
and upload file from his side.

I can only run iPhone at this time since both desktop computer and DSL modem are not working. The modem
issue is the bigger problem since some animals damaged house electrical wiring that also affected the modem so things are by a thread on my side.

These days, the scanning should be done with one of the BookEye scanning products so that way the
book binding is still intact. Those are really expensive products so even if there is business that can provide scanning services with that equipment, the scanning service will be expensive.

Definitely can’t afford to lose that file attachment option feature when WG cowboy opponents are needed to be
uploaded attachments on MW forum such as ‘ cowboy bast on the water tower ‘.
