Thank you for keeping BOTH file formats updated with Mame!
When trying to bring up a History entry on a console with a cart, MAME crashes!
For example, running a2600 with "jrpacman" rom:

The database seems to support this but it happens with 7800, 800, ect.
Any info??

I can't reproduce this. Have you tried to delete the history.db from the history folder and try again ?

Yes, I deleted the .db file with same results.
I'm using latest stadard mame 0.230, and latest XML history file.
If I dont have any cartridges attached, I get history for a 2600 machine. But if there is a cart attached (such as jrpacman) mame blows up. The database has 2600 w/jrpacman data to be displayed.
So your able to get the full history displayed for 2600 jr pacman? i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong here.

I launched the game (jrpacman) and when I select "External DAT view" from the TAB menu, I'm getting the a2600 machine info instead of the jrpacman info BUT MAME don't crashes here. (I'll try to contact the right person in the hope to modify this, the item entry should be displayed instead of the machine entry when an item is plugged in)
I don't know why it's crashing on your side.

Right, if I remove the entry:
<item list="a2600" name="jrpacman" />
and Keep the:
<system name="a2600" />
Mame doesnt crash and I get the standard 2600 machine info.
Does your XML file have the have the:
<item list="a2600" name="jrpacman" />
?
If not, try adding it and see if it crashes!

There was a problem that I just fixed where the old data wasn't being clear properly but if that was related to this it would have been fixed by deleting the history.db.

Thanks for the fix. I always delete the .db when a I put a new version so I didn't had this problem.
Small request: When using the "External DAT view" from the TAB menu when playing a softlist item. It show the machine info instead of the item info. It is possible to display the item info instead ? (for example jrpacman instead of a2600)
Also on the mametesters site, I posted a small bug about the "Show DATs view" icon, it don't works for softlist roms (it works fine for mainlist roms):

These issues are in the ui code so will require more work then just scripting.
