There's no *external* BIOS, there's an internal ROM inside the CPU, this is 100% confirmed.
We need to find a way of extracting it before emulation can go anywhere, so far we've failed, hence why I've had nothing at all to report on the subject.
The code section of the external SPI ROM appear to be protected against modifications as if you change that the games don't boot (the data isn't protected, but modifying data doesn't get us our own code running to extract the internal ROM.
The code is presumably running from RAM after boot (copied from SPI) so changing the content of the SPI after boot, while the system is running does not seem to be effective either.
