NINTENDO VS. Unemulated Games (3 from SUNSOFT, 1 from NINTENDO)
#389671 - 01/24/21 01:59 AM

I was just curious about those 3 prototype VS. games from SUNSOFT (aka Sun Electronics Corp.) and 1 much rarer VS. game from NINTENDO.

Vs. Blaster Master
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kANVfRbeYa0

Vs. Lionex
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5w8QvYevLg

Vs. The Wings of Madoola
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKKC1KHHi4Q

Vs. Urban Champion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjJAFBF-wS8
I know this game version can be played exclusively on the NINTENDO Switch and yet it's not on MAME yet.

Does anyone have these original PCB boards and when will these be on MAME in the future?

Unless someone rip the roms from the Vs. Urban Champion NINTENDO Switch software app that's the only option at the moment, at least until the pcb has been found somewhere in Japan. By the way here's the same video but from Nico Video and the user to contact is "miseria"

But for the other 3 Vs. games: Blaster Master, Lionex, and The Wings of Madoola, you should contact Youtube user "higenekodo" from Japan I think.

Anybody who is a MAME developer living in Japan should contact those 2 users to have a lent of those prototype pcbs etc. before these versions get lost from time to time.

The Dumping Union has plenty of contacts in Japan. The majority of Japanese owners of prototype PCBs are hoarders, and not interested in working with MAME.

What, do you think that we just didn't know about these games? Or that we knew about the owners of these games and just haven't bothered contacting them? Are you that fucking thick?

"...until the pcb has been found somewhere in..."

Retain this phrase for memory's sake. Some of those videos shown on Youtube by collectors
will be only way of ever seeing them. Consider it fortunate of what has already been
preserved and the fact that a few more rare games have been emulated this year. Universal Get A Way and Barricuda are examples of unexpected items being supported since 2021 has started. I'd like to believe maybe a few more titles that are unexpected finds might get supported this year.

If Kee Games Quiz Show does get supported in MAME this year or at least eventually, that is huge in itself because the quiz questions media storage is on tapes. Assuming Andy Welburn was able to get the data copied to a format that can be preserved, that is impressive.

I had been searching off and on for Quiz Show tapes and lucked out back in January 2014, sent a message to Smit, and DU bought a couple of the Quiz Show tapes at the time. Smit and DU and Andy get the credits for contributing in ways to get Quiz Show preserved if and when it happens in MAME later.

I will be happy because I only saw and played a Quiz Show cab in either 1976 or 1977 at Magic Mountain and only other time seeing a working Quiz Show cab was in Arcade Amusements in Manitou Springs, CO in fall 2001. I never saw any working cab after that. I am fairly certain the Quiz Show cab in Colorado was probably trashed after the tape(s) or tape player stopped functioning.

Settle for Sun Electronics Block Challenger?

Once again the phrase comes into play: "...until the pcb has been found somewhere in..."

This is the stuff where MAME helps preserve some of the history as best possible with assistance from contributors from across the globe.

According to the Sunsoft History guy the known prototypes for Lionex and Madoola are in the same Red Tent: https://twitter.com/SunsoftHistory/status/1081185047745572864

The good news is that naruko was allowed to study the prototype board they run on and publish how they work back in 2015. The bad news is he wasn't allowed to release the ROMs. Sounds to me like they'll be preserved in private collector hands indefinitely.

I wouldn't worry about it. Run the Nintendo/Famicom version on the VS without a issue? Put it on HBMAME.

Madoola supposedly doesn't differ too much from the Famicom game, but Lionex was never released on any platform.
