Act Labs PowerRamp

I was cleaning up my basement over the holidays and came across a PowerRamp controller that I purchased on eBay 10+ years ago. It's in new condition and came with the original package and contents. Then I found another one I bought that isn't in quite as nice condition. I had a bad habit back then of bidding on two auctions at the same time and sometimes wound up winning both.

It works nicely other than the stick and buttons aren't arcade quality but it does have some weight to it. You connect a PS/2 keyboard to the controller and it in turn connects to the PC via the PS/2 port. Since I use a wireless keyboard now I was hoping I could connect just the controller to the PC but my motherboard doesn't recognize it unless I also connect a PS/2 keyboard with it.

That’s how the HotRod worked. I ended up buying the “upgrade kit” from X-Arcade for it, so it can connect with USB now. I can still connect a keyboard to it to program the buttons from the default MAME layout. Good stuff!

I did this same thing to my HotRod!

I'm tempted to plonk a pi zero W in mine to turn it into a bluetooth controller.
