Any way to automatically record an inp and name it for the game?

Curious if there was a built-in way to enable an 'auto' -record option and have it create inps for every game you play.
That way if you hit a high score you'd have an inp of it. So far on the command line I see you can specify a named file to output to but not one that gets generated and named automatically based on the game.

It should work if mame allow the use of "statename" variables like %d, %g or %i. Set this option "record %i" inside of arcade.ini or whatever to enable auto recording with the inp file with the rom name.

Thanks, tried that earlier but it merely outputs the inp as the literal statename variable. '%1.inp' etc.
I guess if I'm careful I can just output to a static Game.inp and if it's a memorable outing just copy and rename it to something else.
