Biplane [TTL] [Andrew Welburn]

- Corrected biplane4 ROM labels [Stephen Beall]

-

My thanks to Andy and to Stephen for the Fun Games update and addition.

Granted Allied Leisure Ace (similar game) is already supported and playable, but I
never saw Allied Leisure Ace in arcades compared to Fun Games BiPlane which is why
I am grateful that proms for BiPlane are now supported even though the game won't be
fully emulated for some time.

https://unmamed.mameworld.info/no_cpu.html#BiPlane

From 1975 to 1977, it seemed like every arcade had a Fun Games BiPlane cab
somewhere in any of the rooms. Not as numerous compared to Pong and clones, but
BiPlane cabs were around at many places.

BiPlane was Fun Games main flagship product. Fun Games Tankers was probably
their other main product, but I usually saw more Kee Games Tank or Tank II
compared to Fun Games Tankers.

Tankers game play may appear similar to Tank, but the pcb hardware is different
compared to Tank. See flyer link for Tankers flyer.

Mirco Games Sky War and Tankers info added in hopes that either a Sky War pcb (memory board) or a Tankers (memory board) can be identified and the four proms from either the Sky War memory board or the Tankers memory board can be dumped in the future and supported in MAME as well.

Universal Get A Way *edit* new [Re: gregf]
#389634 - 01/20/21 11:30 AM

My thanks to the contributor for this. I don't recall seeing the game in soCal places back in the days, but maybe it was out at other regions in N. America I never saw it compared to other driving games primarily Sega Monaco GP being most popular then. For the times doing searching on auction sites, I don't recall seeing anything other than the flyer for Get A Way being listed. So this is somewhat of a surprise for 2021 imo.

iirc some time between 2007 to 2010, there had been an old thread on MW about whether Get A Way was a cpu controlled game or not. I don't know which flyers of the game were on TAFA at the time. With a couple flyers describing game being controlled by a cpu, that would have cleared things up, but unsure when those flyers were online back then.

Great to know that Universal Get A Way is in working state, but with future fixes still needing to be done later. My thanks to the contributor for getting Universal Get A Way preserved.

Kee Games Quiz Show new [Re: gregf]
#389662 - 01/23/21 01:55 PM

quizshow: add cassette device

hap 2021-01-22

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/commit/e4372de928ba3cf575208d27b5a9fa3e97ae4b37

- tape recordings are available, but there are DC offset problems
- MAME needs multi-track cassette support

-

I look forward to seeing how this effort progresses and hope that Quiz Show
will be eventually playable/preserved in MAME. Quiz Show is only remaining not emulated
cpu based video game I had played back in the 1970s. All the other cpu based video
games I recalled playing in 1970s are emulated (several still without analog audio support).

I never thought I would come across Quiz Show tapes for sale, but was fortunate to do so
and mentioned it to others so the tapes could be purchased at the time (iirc it was in
2014) Finding the tapes for sale had been on my search list since about 2002 or 2003.

Back in fall 2001, I was visiting Manitou Springs, CO Arcade Amusements and one of the rooms still had a fully working Kee Games Quiz Show. I didn't have time to take photos or play the game which I regret because by the time I was able to visit Arcade Amusements, the Kee Games Quiz Show cab was supposedly disposed of which I dread thinking what that meant. The cab was in decent condition in 2001 and could have been 'parted' with working parts for sale should cab not been repairable. My guess is tape cassette or tape player stopped working and the next idea was probably "lets dump this whole thing in the trash..heck with old games." *sarcasm*

Another quiz game with a cassette tape deck from the same era, Sega/Gremlin's Tic Tac Quiz is entirely undumped. That one runs on an even more unusual hardware platform featuring a SC/MP CPU.

There was a table version of Tic Tac Quiz for sale at flippers (Vancouver, B.C.), but that was about 15 to 20 years ago. Tic Tac Quiz was probably the last Sega name only released game in either late 1976 or early 1977 before Sega did eventually bought out Gremlin either in 1978 or 1979. One of those bits of trivia hopefully someone can track down in one of the old coinop trade industry magazines such as Play Meter.

Now that is a surprise to me if that is a cpu based game. I was guessing it wouldn't be using a cpu. That is a bummer with no pcb nor roms being dumped yet (tapes too).

I am glad Ramtek Trivia proms have been dumped. Still need Ramtek Trivia tapes to be dumped. There was an opportunity, but previous landlord at previous residence didn't want a Ramtek Trivia cab on the premises so that opportunity went out the window.

I only saw a cocktail table version at Disneyland (possibly Starcade arcade) near one of the entrances. It had to have been either in late 1976 or more likely when I was there in summer 1977. I never saw the game in person after that. I didn't play the game, but watched a couple try and play the game. It didn't have any interest to me then, so I went directly over to Exidy Circus since I enjoyed playing that much more when I was a kid then.

As a kid then, spending a quarter on a quiz game versus Exidy Circus, it is a no brainer that a kid will prefer playing Exidy Circus nearly 100% of the time.
