It makes perfect sense. One of the main reasons I bought a 3D printer was to do that every thing. The wheels you find for purchase are usually pretty small. There is a Go Kart steering wheel on Thingiverse that would be PERFECT.
I vaguely remember a time when I was building my cab years ago, I ran across a spinner that allowed you to attach a mini steering wheel. Ah yes, I found it... https://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=268 I don't know anything about it, but I would think that you would have to adjust the sensitivity of the spinner to make up for the diameter of the wheel. Instead, I opted for the popular (at the time) Tornado spinner. I am still able to use the spinner for 360 games like Pole Position and Sprint, and even though it isn't the exact controls (i.e. an actual wheel), it is a compromise with space on the CP.
I have the TurboTwist 2 spinner seen in the video below and like it. I hope to get one of the small steering wheel attachments for it someday just for giggles.
