another couple examples of things messed up in America in this day and age
#386903 - 06/29/20 06:55 AM

In Aurora, CO string instrumentalists were paying tribute to memory of Elijah McClain after what happened to him last year....almost a similar scenario in some ways to what happened to Trayvon Martin six years earlier in Florida.

The same police department that did in Elijah McClain last year goes all out SWAT commando on the performers and spectators that were in attendance to honor Elijah McClain.

I didn't agree with 'defund' police concept but more of a 'demilitarize police' reform instead. Maybe Aurora, CO police probably should be the exception and be defunded and replaced. I was told that Aurora has problems, but a military SWAT police should not be the answer. The 'city hall' there probably needs to be replaced along with several police personnel.

While in St Louis, MO the mayor calls out activists and mentions the names of their residential address, phone numbers and any other public info to the public as some form of intimidation.

In response to what the mayor did, protesters then marched days later in a protest. As protesters marched by some area, a couple of gun owners with one pointing a pistol at the marchers which is (brandishing a weapon which is usually a felony in most states). If nothing happens to the gal holding/pointing pistol, then this country (USA) is beyond messed up. String instrumentalists paying tribute NOT OKAY, but pointing a gun at marching protesters passing by IS OKAY? NO WAY. Things need to be changed.

St. Louis couple points guns at protesters calling for Mayor to resign

ST. LOUIS — A man and a woman pointed guns at protesters who marched through the Central West End Sunday night to call for Mayor Lyda Krewson to resign.

Videos from the protest showed the man pointing a semi-automatic rifle and a woman pointing a pistol at the crowd marching down the street. The videos circulated widely on social media Sunday night.

The protest, which was organized by Expect Us, started near the intersection of Maryland Plaza and North Euclid Avenue, and stopped at Krewson's home before heading toward the Delmar Loop.

The protest came two days after a Facebook Live news briefing in which Krewson read the names and street addresses of protesters who are calling on the city to defund the police department, a move which the ACLU called "shocking and misguided" and resulted in online backlash. An online petition started over the weekend calling for her to resign has more than 40,000 signatures.

edit: Eventually to be former gun owners. The lawyer couple better be prepared to be clients being represented by another law firm in both potential criminal prosecution and maybe be disbarred from legal practice in the state and also losing gun ownership rights as well. Another update to St. Louis protest although both sides overstepped their boundaries...protesters barging their way in to gated community to get to mayor's residence and the couple with their mansion being along the same route go outside their mansion to point guns at protesters. It's one thing having a gun to a holster, but another when pointing gun at someone when that person is only walking past. The guns and license will likely be confiscated, but maybe their legal practice goes out the window first.

A bit more on why events unfolded.

A story on KMOV said the protesters broke down a gate to get in so I'm confused why the rich folks didn't just call the police.

Regardless, there's no excuse for this very uncivil and dangerous reaction to unarmed, peaceful protesters.

the useless lawyer couple new [Re: gregf]

When society complains about lawyers in general, this law suit ambulance chasers couple fits the description. The police appropriately confiscated the AR-15 semi automatic. The handgun also needs to be confiscated and maybe that will happen later. If anything, the arrest warrant being served and being sent to jail would be better.

St. Louis couple who pointed guns at protesters have a history of suing neighbors

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213736982

Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the St. Louis couple who pointed guns at protesters, have a long history of suing their neighbors, a lengthy investigation by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch found.

The newspaper found that the two personal injury lawyers have been in litigation with their gated neighborhood almost continually since they moved into their home in 1988, which they obtained after winning a lawsuit.

The McCloskeys filed suits over small neighborhood issues, such as accusing neighbors of breaking neighborhood rules by allowing an unmarried gay couple to live there. The McCloskeys appealed all the way to the state Supreme Court.

The couple also reportedly sued a synagogue near their home for setting up beehives on their property to harvest honey for Rosh Hashanah celebrations. Mark McCloskey allegedly smashed the beehives, and the next day the children in the synagogue cried, the congregation's rabbi told the Post-Dispatch.
