This....I like. It would be neat if an input device, similar to a Roland G-707, can be supported to run the Roland GR-700 Guitar Synthesizer.

Here are a couple demo clips.

Steps Ahead with Chuck Loeb putting the Roland equipment to good use. Steps Ahead
Modern Times is/was best Steps album imo.

Late, great Michael Brecker playing pre Akai EWI instrument known as as the Steinerphone before Akai licensed the Steinerphone from Nyle Steiner and redesigned it as today's EWI (eeeeee weeeee) Electronic Wind Instrument. The EWI is reasonably priced, but one better be a darn good woodwind instrument player to make purchase worthwhile. iirc one has to change ways of breathing into an EWI when playing it instead of a woodwind instrument such as a saxophone or clarinet. One has to re-adjust to playing an EWI from what I recall hearing or watching a videoclip in the past.

Nyle performing with his other designed instrument (Electronic Valve Instrument)
and doing an impressive job with creating the various orchestra sound outputs.

Fairlight synthesizer progress new [Re: gregf]
#386985 - 07/06/20 11:06 AM

*keeping this thread in emulated musical equipment category*

Moogly's video with ongoing continuing progress with Phil's past work with this system.

The video shows about 40 bars of Common time (ie 4/4) being played of rhythm equipment making some noise. (cabasa, open hi hat, bass drum, small/hi crash cymbal usually a 12 or 14 inch size cymbal used with a drum set)

Back in 2009, MAME developer Phil Bennett wrote a driver for the Fairlight CMI IIx for MESS, which was at the time MAME's sister project focusing on non-coin-op platforms.

He never got around to updating the driver to modern APIs, so with MAME and MESS merging together a few years back, I decided to take on the challenge, and make some improvements along the way. Currently, only revision 19 of the system software boots, and there are significant audio issues, but it nevertheless runs fairly decently.

In approximate order of difficulty, the following is a list of things still yet to be implemented:
- Envelopes
- Volume control
- Correct pitch tuning
- SMIDI card
- Filters
- AIC card

Stay tuned for more updates as they happen.

See thread of Fairlight CMI by SynaMax in case it might get more posts later

Eventual goal is getting emulation audio similar to this demonstration.

On the comments section of the clip:

sfzan1 is on Steps Ahead - Radio Active

If any actual samples diskettes contents are still around/online these days, I am guessing they might be treated as some future softlist xml file setup.

Are the fairlight samples available online anywhere? I really like that bell chime

They're floating around out there. I downloaded the group that came with the Fairlight about 15 years ago for my Ensoniq ASR-10.

Imagine shooting waveforms onto the Fairlight wave editor with a lightgun.
