Trump administration says the coronavirus vaccine might not be affordable for all Americans

Source: Business Insider

"We would want to ensure that we work to make it affordable, but we can't control that price because we need the private sector to invest," Azar told members of Congress during a hearing concerning the coronavirus outbreak and the administration's budget request. "Price controls won't get us there."

Democrats and other critics quickly condemned Azar.

"Secretary Azar is refusing to promise that a Coronavirus vaccine will be affordable to every American. Kick them out of office," Sen. Brian Schatz, a Hawaii Democrat, tweeted Wednesday evening.

The progressive group Center for American Progress tweeted, "This is a global health crisis, and everyone should have the right to medication that will help protect them from this virus."

(7 paragraphs down)......But the government has a potentially powerful safety valve at its disposal to counteract outrageous pricing by the pharmaceutical industry. Under 28 U.S.C. § 1498 (“Section 1498”), the federal government has the power to use or manufacture any patented product, and must provide only “reasonable” compensation to the patent holder. The government could therefore elect to either contract with another manufacturer to produce a cheap generic version of expensive patented drugs. Or it could use the threat of Section 1498 to negotiate a license from the brand-name manufacturer to use their drugs at a steep discount.

CDC recommends men shave their beards to protect against coronavirus CORONAVIRUS by: CNN Newsource

--
Face masks and respirators are being used around the world in an effort to combat the massive global spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The CDC cautions that facial hair can interfere with those devices.

A CDC infographic displays dozens of styles, showing which ones are compatible with masks and respirators.

Some types of facial hair can keep the exhalation valve from working properly, according to health officials.

Styles such as side whiskers, handlebar mustaches, and several others are okay, but styles such as mutton chops and full beards are not recommended.

Things like goatees and villain mustache are okay, with caution

>It's airborne in California, everyone is about to get it

Hopefully not everyone, but the two Tennessee [both GOP] knuckleheads certainly are to blame for the chain of events to to begin. The HHS staff was unprepared according to one of the senior staff members [whistle blower] who took notes that many of the staff didn't take protective measures when assisting the specific American cruise ship passengers that left the ship and returned to the air force base.

--
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213025292

Tennessee doctor [Dr. Arnold Hopland, who runs a clinic in Elizabethton] got his GOP rep [Tennessee Rep. Phil Roe (R)] to overrule CDC & repatriate infected cruise ship passengers.

Then Trump's HHS sent unprotected, untrained HHS employees to greet these 14 infected evacuees. Trump had disbanded the pandemic response team. These HHS employees were not quarantined and mingled in the community surrounding Travis Air Force Base in California where the evacuees were supposedly quarantined. At least one HHS staffer stayed at a local hotel and left on a commercial air liner. About 10 days after the infected evacuees arrived, the woman from the area came down with Covid-19 and checked herself into a local hospital 10 miles from Travis.

It is now in our communities, thanks to a Tennessee doctor who had GOP connections strong enough to overrule the CDC. Then Trump's HHS and State Department made things worse by accepting the evacuees in the most incompetent, unsafe way possible.
--

The timeline, as posted by another poster shows that the affected hospital patient [CA native that wasn't a cruise ship passenger] was likely affected by someone affiliated with evacuating the ship passengers and may have spread covid 19 to that patient.

--
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=13025434

The first evacuees were were brought to Travis Feb.5. She first sought treatment Feb. 15

Travis AFB officials said Monday that 171 individuals made up the newest group of coronavirus evacuees at the base. The group of 171 people does not include those who previously arrived Feb. 5 and Feb. 7 at the base from the Wuhan area of China where the new coronavirus — officially named COVID-19 — is believed to have originated.

UC Davis student showing 'mild symptoms' of coronavirus. 3 roommates in isolation

Source: Sacramento Bee

A student living in a dormitory at UC Davis has shown “mild symptoms” of coronavirus and has been placed in isolation, along with two other students living in the dorm, Yolo County and university officials said Thursday.

The student has a runny nose and a cough after potentially being exposed to someone with coronavirus, officials said. The individual is in isolation at a home off campus. The two other individuals in isolation are the student’s roommates and are not showing signs of the virus.

Snopes: Did Trump Fire the US Pandemic Response Team?

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=13022624

"It’s true that the Trump administration axed the executive branch team responsible for coordinating a response to a pandemic and did not replace it, eliminating Ziemer’s position and reassigning others, although Bolton was the executive at the top of the National Security Council chain of command at the time."

The Trump administration does nothing that isn't specifically and directly attributable to Trump. It doesn't matter if John Bolton was somewhere in the chain of command, the buck stops with the guy in the Oval Office. And this "Ziemer's team was disbanded" sounds like nothing so much as "mistakes were made." Ziemer's team didn't disband itself, did it? Someone handed those people their walking papers and it was Donald Trump.

So....the jackass then hands off the chore to the 'christofascist' because that number two dud hadn't been doing anything. First decision by 'christofascist' is to order all federal health agencies faculty members to defer to him only where he [christofascist] will be the only person who informs the US citizens of what is happening.

The christofascist adds only finance experts to make up the committee that will uselessly attempt to deal with covid 19 virus by indicating that Wall Street is more important than US citizens and a healthy financial market can be beat any old global epidemic. *sarcasm, but unfortunately true.*

Meanwhile after another over 1100 dow jones drop [ie correction imo] the jackass complains to media on Thursday that his presentation performance was 'best' thing ever even though he is clueless and he is unable to fool anyone by his Wednesday evening crapshow pathetic 'calming' attempt.

Trump Throws A Fit Because Nobody Took His Coronavirus Press Conference Seriously

As PoliticusUSA’s Sarah Jones noted earlier on Thursday, the stock market is having its worst week since the financial crisis – a sign that just about nobody is confident in Trump’s ability to manage this global health crisis.

On Thursday, the president threw a fit that his made-for-TV coronavirus press conference wasn’t viewed favorably by the public, blaming the media for not raving about how “calming” it was.

“It would be really nice if we could be recognized by the press fairly,” Trump whined. “I gave a press conference yesterday that was really a very good press conference, and some people thought it was great.”

He added, “Basically it was a calming press conference. It was a conference to say we’re doing well.”

If there is another event to worry about is the fact that nearly 500 to 1000 US military personnel are still being ordered to remain guarding Syrian oil refineries. While Turkey illegally invaded Syria with Turkish militia months earlier in attempts to remove Syrian Kurdish villagers from Syria, it is now Turkish military versus Syria military and Russia military in several battles throughout regions of Syria over past two days.

I would not be surprised if the US forces that are being ordered to remain in Syria to guard the Syrian oil refineries might get sacrificed because the jackass in office thinks he is allowed to loot the Syrian oil for himself.

Turkey strikes Russian, Assad regime bastion Latakia, other targets in Syria with missiles

BY DAILY SABAH WITH WIRES

ISTANBUL POLITICS FEB 28, 2020 1:21 AM GMT+3

Turkey early Friday carried out missile attacks on targets in Syria's central Hama, northwestern towns of Nubl and Zahraa, as well as in regime and Russian bastion, Latakia, in response to the Assad regime airstrike that killed 22 Turkish soldiers.

The military also pounded Assad regime targets with artillery along the frontline in Idlib.

Earlier in the day, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan convened an emergency meeting over tensions in the war-ravaged Syrian city.

Security sources told Daily Sabah that all ministers and senior officials, including the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) chief Hakan Fidan, were present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Communications released a statement on the Turkish offensive against Syrian regime forces.

It said Turkish forces have neutralized at least 1,709 Assad regime soldiers, as well as 55 tanks, three helicopters, 18 armored vehicles, 29 howitzers, 21 military vehicles, six ammunition depots, seven mortars and four Soviet-made DShK heavy machine guns.

What was documented in the Steele dossier papers [Fusion GPS services] in 2016 that was originally purchased by Jeb Bush during 2016 GOP Primaries and then purchased again by DNC and Clinton's campaign in summer 2016 now correctly points out that the jackass can easily be extorted because the jackass is owned by both Putin [Russia] and Erdogan [Turkey] regarding the jackass' real estate holdings that were supposed to have been sold or transferred before becoming president.

This means both Russia and Turkey will bend the jackass into a pretzel with possibly holding US military personnel still inside Syria as possible future hostages while Turkey and Russia are fighting each other inside Syria.

Maybe the virus might be ready to do a possible reach-a-round behind the back sneak attack on the 'christofascist' courtesy of classmates from a military academy that also has another one of the classmates that is under quarantine along with his parent who was treating a covid 19 infected patient? Time to see how this thing spreads. Any future press briefing at WH might get interesting even though it will be still photos only from photographers for time being.

Student Quarantined Days After Classmates Shook Mike Pence's Hand, Report Says

Source: Reuters

A student whose classmates met and shook hands with Vice President Mike Pence has reportedly been put under quarantine after his mom came into contact with a patient who tested positive for coronavirus. The unnamed male student from Sarasota Military Academy and his mother have both been quarantined at home, according to a post on the academy’s Facebook page. The Herald Tribune reported that the mother came in contact with an infected person through her “professional role” but neither of the two are exhibiting any symptoms of the coronavirus. On Friday, Sarasota cadets shook hands and posed for photos with Pence, who was in Sarasota for a fundraiser. The Pentagon is said to have been in touch with the school about the student. Last week, President Donald Trump tapped Pence to lead the administration’s coronavirus task force.

Person With Coronavirus Attended CPAC Conference in Maryland

Source: NBC

Organizers of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) say someone who attended the conference last week in National Harbor, Maryland, has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

The patient was exposed to the virus prior to the four-day conference and is being quarantined in New Jersey, organizers said in a tweet.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence attended CPAC but did not come in contact with the patient, organizers said.

"This attendee had no interaction with the President or the Vice President and never attended the events in the man hall," the group wrote. CPAC was held Feb. 26-29 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.

--

It's not that simple.

One person? And who did they shake hands with? Or bump into? Or cough or sneeze near?

And then, who did THEY shake hands with? Or bump into? Or cough or sneeze near?

And then, who did THOSE people in the next degree down shake hands with? Or bump into? Or cough or sneeze near?

And on it goes, compounding accordingly. And that’s just in and around AIPAC. What else? Who else? Who else did “AIPAC Patient Zero” encounter in the hours and days before AIPAC? And where is that individual now? In quarantine? And how many encounters has this person had with others before he or she was finally identified?

And of all the people “AIPAC Patient Zero” encountered, who did THEY encounter, and where? And where are THEY now?

There’s just a galaxy full of things we don’t know about, regarding this. And it takes TIME to sort out. And some people may not want to face the results.

Especially since we don’t know who among all those people actually DID come into contact with trump (or came into contact with someone who then came into contact with trump). And we all have seen how he doesn’t wash his hands.

It's a bummer this is taking place in Italy and the quarantine is already causing some of the residents there to flee elsewhere. Italy is in better condition along with other countries either now set up or in process of setting up compared to several of the US states....especially the 'red' states with governors willing to follow whatever the jackass-in-office tells them to do compared to the 'blue' states governors who know better to ignore the jackass.

'Get ready': Italian doctors warn Europe

... In the note, sent to the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, critical care experts Professor Maurizio Cecconi, Professor Antonio Pesenti and Professor Giacomo Grasselli, from the University of Milan, revealed how difficult it had been to treat coronavirus patients. They said: “We are seeing a high percentage of positive cases being admitted to our intensive care units (ICUs), in the range of 10 per cent of all positive patients... We wish to convey a strong message: Get ready!”

They said Italian hospitals had seen “a very high” number of intensive care patients who were admitted “almost entirely” for severe lung failure caused by the virus and needing ventilators to help them breathe. They said hospitals across the UK and Europe needed to prepare for a surge in admissions and cautioned against working “in silos”. They said it was vital hospitals had equipment to protect staff and that staff were trained in wearing the kit. They added: “Increase your total ICU capacity. Identify early hospitals that can manage the initial surge in a safe way. Get ready to prepare ICU areas where to cohort Covid-19 patients – in every hospital if necessary.”...

Italy to adopt new draconian steps to fight coronavirus: draft decree
Source: Reuters

The Italian government will adopt new tough measures to try to contain the spread of coronavirus, including telling people not to enter or leave the hardest-hit region of Lombardy, according to a draft decree seen by Reuters.

So far only a few limited areas of northern Italy, known as “red zones”, have been quarantined, but in a dramatic escalation the draft tells people not to enter or leave Lombardy or 11 provinces in other regions.

The legislation is expected to be approved later on Saturday, the head of the civil protection agency said earlier, after the number of infections rose by more than 1,200 in the last 24 hours.

>I haven't really been keeping a close eye on what the U.S. is doing about the virus.

At this time, very little on the federal level (CDC and National Institute of Health) since the a lot of the staff had been removed over the past few years. They are now trying to catch up, but some of the components that make up the covid 19 testing are in short supply which is another delay. Bill Gates and his foundation along with Bezos have been putting in funds to get testing kits available, but the kits have to follow FDA guidelines before being used for testing patients. On the state level, WA, CA, and NY are also working on making covid 19 test kits available asap. Already, many of the countries of conducted lots of tests for their populations (China, s. Korea, Italy, etc) while in US, testing has been very minimal for time being.

> All I've heard is that only 9,000 people have been tested, at huge cost to themselves.

Somewhat correct. I am not sure of the number tested, but the cost per test is somewhere of $1000 to $2000 range. Gates foudation (Bill) and Bezos (Amazon) test kits are supposedly to be free for residents in WA. I am guessing probably some exception such as if they are employees of either MS or Amazon, but if it is for all WA residents...kudos for them doing that.

>And, that a hospital stay would cost $AU84,000 until the disease has run its course.

Five or six figure range, and even if anyone survives from the worst effects of Covid 19 virus, their lungs will be in such bad shape the person may not survive the second time around if virus happens again.

>It seems the U.S. health system's deficiencies will finally come around to bite them.

The US would have been in a faster fighting capacity had Clinton been president. The group that made up the pandemic response team that was created during Obama's terms in WH were dismissed in 2018 when John Bolton had become DNI lead and informed the jackass that the pandemic response team was initiated by Obama.

As Dec 2019 virus outbreak began in China, the jackass' administration kept downplaying the outbreak over past couple months instead of starting some defensive approach of preventing the outbreak. Maybe they could have offered some assistance to China had the pandemic research staff still been around even though China was trying to hide the actual events of how serious the outbreak was.

Within last couple weeks, the jackass and GOP crazies were still denying existence of outbreak as a hoax or blaming media as 'hyping' the virus. This way the crooks were hoping to manipulate stocks and wall street in thinking that the crooks will be in WH for another four years while US general population would be only ones suffering.

The crooks met their match and then some with covid 19 being caught by a few GOP members at the CPAC convention and now the stocks taking a long overdue correction drop and almost all events that keep economy going are now at a standstill in US along with other countries having similar issues with outbreak.

>I don't see how anyone in the normal or below income range will be able to afford it. The
>rich won't care about that of course.

As quite a few have already stated, the GOP crooks and the wannabe mafia administration were hoping the outbreak would kill off everybody else (ie: general US citizens) but them in hopes they can steal another election. They underestimated of what would happen and come November 2020, expect general elections to go to 70% Democratic victories over GOP members in upcoming political races.

Trump Met Brazilian Official Who Tested Positive For Coronavirus

A close aide to Brazil's president who attended a dinner with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend tested positive for coronavirus, local newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo reported.

Fabio Wajngarten, President Jair Bolsonaro's communications secretary, will have his samples submitted for a second test for final confirmation, Estado reported without saying how it obtained the information. He was part of the presidential entourage during a trip to Florida earlier this week. Pictures posted on social media show him side-by-side with Trump, wearing a "Make Brazil Great Again" hat.

Fabio Wajngarten, the press secretary for Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, has tested positive for coronavirus, two sources tell CNN. He was at dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago Saturday night, took a photo with him and later attended Kimberly Guilfoyle’s birthday party.

>America is not taking this seriously.

It somewhat depends of which ones.

The decent governors of several states: WA, OR, CA, NY, IL, MN, NM, PA, MI have been doing their parts of handling events in their own states. Other states, TX, FL, TN that have GOP governors have operated reckless ....especially in FL. The way things have been going until in past two days, Florida is where there could be lots of early casualties compared to other states.

The 'mis' / 'mal' administration being run by the jackass in office was intentionally downplaying the outbreak when events were being noticed in China early this year. The criminal crooks running at the federal level were planning on hoping the outbreak would only affect specific parts of the US that didn't affect red state voters. They also want some way to capitalize and make money off of the pandemic, and also hope the markets could still remain healthy and the jackass was thinking he can win the WH for another term.

>The situation here in Italy is really very serious ...

Fortunately already set up there to handle things even though maybe some initial missteps
took place. It's unfortunate this virus wasn't really known of what damage it could do.

>I can't understand why the American and British leaders are underestimating this
worldwide problem!

I haven't followed UK's "Bojo" to see what is going on there, but the orange face jackass
fool, in the WH, was intentionally not taking a serious approach when this was starting in
late December/early January.

US will eventually take the lead and have more casualties within next couple months.
If looking at chart by each state California might have most because of its population
size compared to other states, but Florida might easily take the early lead because the
GOP governor chose to allow businesses and theme parks to still operate in Florida in drawing in large crowds as if nothing serious was going to happen. The professional
sports leagues in basketball, hockey, baseball already knew several days earlier to shut
down, but the Florida governor chose to let things still happen until he finally wised up two days ago.

I am thankful to be in CA where a state government is still functional compared to several of the red states and the federal level which has been almost destroyed by GOP
crooks and assholes.

I am surprised Switzerland is having problems. I thought they would be prepared there.

Correct. Think opposite of when Pres Harry Truman had the piece on the Oval Office desk, back in 1950s, that read: "The buck stops here." If the jackass had a similar item on the desk these days, it would read: The buck stops over there or somewhere else. It never stops here.

Here are a couple of his latest irresponsible examples. The fact that he chose not to do anything specific in January and February, when he could have initiated some approaches to help minimize the outbreak speaks volumes that the GOP wanted this to happen on purpose in thinking they can steal general elections later in the year. This outbreak can easily wipe out their voting base as well since those on their side choose not to follow precautions.

This tweet example shows his only concern is money, business, and his thought of wanting to steal another election because the jackass will put blame on the governors of the various states trying to help the citizens in their own respective states.

Another example, if considered accurate, shows the jackass hates being considered a distant runner-up to respective governors that know how to manage a crisis on the state level and show what it takes in front of television audience to handle and explain the crisis and provide useful answers in what is being done to handle the virus outbreak.

The jackass hates the current events in which he is unable to hold his 'hatefest' rallies at various places that attract his koolaid drinkers, neo-nazi, KKK crazies because some the states are trying to minimize the virus outbreak from spreading. This upsets him so he then takes his frustrations out at WH reporters that are at WH press briefings to get latest news updates about the virus outbreak.

Trump is 'furious' with New York Gov. Cuomo because his pandemic press conferences are overshadowing

Appearing on MSNBC’s “Am Joy” on Sunday morning, Vanity Fair reporter Gabriel Sherman told host Joy Reid that Donald Trump is “furious” with Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) because his daily press conferences on the coronavirus pandemic are getting rave reviews — while his own are being panned.

Speaking with the host, Sherman explained, “My sources who are in touch with the White House, several people told me that one of the things driving [Trump’s task force press conference appearances] this is that the president has been furious and frustrated at New York Governor Andrew Cuomo who has been holding these very widely well-received early morning press conferences and, in the president’s view, has sort of hijacked the news cycle.”

DOJ seeks new emergency powers amid coronavirus pandemic

The Justice Department has quietly asked Congress for the ability to ask chief judges to detain people indefinitely without trial during emergencies — part of a push for new powers that comes as the coronavirus spreads through the United States.

Documents reviewed by POLITICO detail the department’s requests to lawmakers on a host of topics, including the statute of limitations, asylum and the way court hearings are conducted. POLITICO also reviewed and previously reported on documents seeking the authority to extend deadlines on merger reviews and prosecutions.

A Justice Department spokesperson declined to comment on the documents.

The move has tapped into a broader fear among civil liberties advocates and Donald Trump’s critics — that the president will use a moment of crisis to push for controversial policy changes. Already, he has cited the pandemic as a reason for heightening border restrictions and restricting asylum claims.

Comparison of national testing rates per capita: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/covid19-tests-per-million-people
Why is backwoods Australia managing to test a far higher proportion of the population than most of the world? Yeah, UAE is making us look bad by comparison, but look at the rest of the world.

Graphs of infections starting from 100th known case - mouse over to highlight a line: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/covid-confirmed-cases-since-100th-case
China had massive growth early, but the line has flattened. Same for Korea. Iran's flattened out to a low but steady frowth rate. Spain's starting to show slight flattening, as is France. Japan's had a slow growth rate, and Singapore's slower than that. But USA? Still getting steeper.

I haven't followed the various sites, but I will guess that officials in Australia had seen what has already happened in other regions and took an aggressive approach of testing nearly everyone (if possible) and they probably had stockpile of test kits already in storage ready to be used.

>China had massive growth early, but the line has flattened.

I am skeptical about the numbers that China has been reporting. We'll find out results after many of the current travel restrictions are removed.

> Same for Korea.

> Iran's flattened out to a low but steady growth rate.

I am skeptical on numbers being reported from there as well.

>Spain's starting to show slight flattening, as is France. Japan's had a slow growth
>rate, and Singapore's slower than that.

Spain and Italy are both in bad shape for now, but I believe Italy has been almost able to contain virus in northern regions even though there may be some cases in southern Italy.

> But USA? Still getting steeper.

With useless, criminally crooked administration, USA has now surpassed Italy and Spain with more reported virus infected positive victims. The casualty toll will eventually surpass by following week and country might either be behind China or maybe surpass China.

The blue states such as NY and California currently have the most casualties, but with the way some of the red states such as Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee have hardcore GOP psychos running those states, they might eventually have far more casualties combined compared to NY/CA/Illinois/WA/Oregon because the GOP leaders are choosing to allow all the states residents to go about as if there is no pandemic. With the way the outbreak has gone on an exponential curve, a lot of the GOP controlled states could be in some Irwin Allen disaster type 1960s/1970s movie within a few weeks. Or better yet, think of the movie scene in Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the Wyoming town residents are scrambling to climb aboard railroad cars as they are trying to flee. It could look like that the way GOP controlled states are inviting disaster to happen.

The way how the jackass-in-office claims the it will be safe to attend church on Easter Sunday services and things will be normal is only fooling those that believe him.

In the meantime, it looks like two countries are in the race to challenge Italy and Spain in the outbreak casualties. I don't understand why leaders in Sweden are thinking with their mindset while Norway and Finland have taken steps to deal with virus outbreak.

And in Mexico, it is also a cavalier attitude from the president there. They will be hurting in getting supplies now that other countries have grabbed their available supplies or are in process of manufacturing supplies. The officials in Mexico better have contingency plans in place when things get worse because they will. Seeing how things got worse in Italy and now seeing the same scene played out in USA, Mexico should be seeing this and taking any action immediately.

Mexico's coronavirus-skeptical president is setting up his country for a health crisis

In speech after speech, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, known by his nickname AMLO, tells Mexicans they shouldn’t fear Covid-19, even as hundreds of thousands of people have confirmed infections worldwide. Despite warnings from global health officials, he continues to hold political rallies, kiss supporters, and request that Mexicans go out shopping to prop up the country’s sputtering economy during a global slowdown.

“Live life as usual,” he said in a video posted to Facebook on March 22, showing him outside at a restaurant. “If you’re able and have the means to do so, continue taking your family out to eat … because that strengthens the economy."

AMLO’s advice, experts say, is deadly. What makes matters worse is that his policies over the past few years have set the stage for a profound health crisis. In a major effort to cut government spending, AMLO has reduced funds for the country’s hospitals and medical centers by millions. It’s left the nation short of physicians, medical equipment, beds, and coronavirus tests.

Another latest example of this intentional, willful negligence in effort to eventually place blame on governors of various states (blue) throughout the country. The red states will be the ones with far more casualties since they have few resources at this time and if the governors of the various red states ask for help from the crooked administration later, the help will likely arrive way too late for them.

Trump Threatens TV Stations If They Air Coronavirus Response Criticism

Trump Threatens TV Stations If They Air Coronavirus Response Criticism

Trump is threatening to take away licenses from television stations if they air an ad that is critical of his response to the coronavirus.

Via Bloomberg:

The Trump re-election campaign told TV stations they could lose their operating licenses for airing an ad criticizing the president’s actions in the coronavirus crisis — a challenge that may be more bluster than actual threat.

...
Failure to remove the ad “could put your station’s license in jeopardy” before the Federal Communications Commission, the campaign said in the letter. “Your station has an obligation to cease and desist from airing it immediately to comply with FCC licensing requirements.”

There are a couple of huge problems with the Trump campaign’s threat. First, the President doesn’t have the power to take licenses away from television stations. Second, the ad is free speech. It is criticism of the government that is protected by the Constitution. If Trump tried to take a license away from a broadcaster for airing the ad, the issue would go to court, Trump would lose.

You do realize that he is working with a whole TEAM of people in the form of doctors and emergency management personnel, that closely monitor what all states have, compared with both IMMEDIATE need and what is available... right? That's how emergency management works. States are getting a balance of what is needed compared to what is available, not what they simply want.

Many hospitals and such that are complaining, want extra shit based on their fears and what they THINK they are going to need. And those hospitals are not talking to the correct people (ie. emergency management).

Again, Trump and the leads of the team are on the news every day, so you can listen to them directly, instead of listening to theories, conjecture, and reporters who are paid to make Trump look bad at all costs. This isn't about 1 man and your hurt feelings because he was elected.

>You do realize that he is working with a whole TEAM of people in the form of doctors and
>emergency management personnel, that closely monitor what all states have, compared with
>both IMMEDIATE need and what is available... right?

The team should have been the Pandemic Response Team, but no ....the jackass got rid of them including one of the CDC members who was stationed in China to observe things in case an outbreak took place in China and the CDC staffer would have notified US agencies to assist China in case China had asked for help. This all happened in summer 2018.

Since events became a bit more serious in February, the jackass turned the responsibility of leading being charge of virus outbreak to the christo-fascist evangelical VP and charged him with handling the task instead. That christo-dunderhead, when he was Gov Indiana, chose to close down various medical programs that were in Indiana to help keep AIDs in check and instead AIDs infections increased because of religious views against helping citizens that were not evangelical Christians (non-whites, same sex / LBGTQ / drug users).

"Dense Pense" has basically threatened the remaining medical staff at CDC or NIH of "Do not say anything OR else." All propaganda would be from him only no one else. No previous administrations ever pulled that crap before.

When Obama was in charge when the N1H1 virus (swine flu) had first been detected in San Diego region, he had the CDC and NIH departments send whatever supplies needed to be sent in order to limit the outbreak of the swine flu. The National Stockpile of medical equipment that was used needed to be replenished, but since the House was claimed by Tea Party sociopaths in 2010, they denied almost all funding that would have been used to help replenish the stock supply of medical equipment.

The National Stockpile then remained partially empty since GOP was controlling the purse strings of funding.

The jackass ignored or downplayed what was already happening in China, northern Italy, and S. Korea. S. Korea and US had gotten first identifications of Covid 19 on same day, but S. Korea quickly enacted their emergency policies and were able to prevent Covid 19 from far more serious destruction compared to in US. Had US taken immediate steps, the damage would still be there, but the numbers wouldn't have been as what they are currently at. The hospitals would have had enough equipment to work with, but nope. Some ass decided to sit on his ass and joke about it.

Now that things are too late to keep destruction to a minimum......

>States are getting a balance of what is needed compared to what is available, not what
> they simply want. Many hospitals and such that are complaining, want extra shit based on
>their fears and what they THINK they are going to need. And those hospitals are not
>talking to the correct people (ie. emergency management).

Keep in mind that supplies from National stockpile had NOT been re-supplied when it could have been had the House GOP that was in control from 2010 to 2018 (thank god Democratic Party took over and ran out scum like Rohrabacher and other GOP politician prostitutes working for Putin)

When the outbreak was starting in mainland US, the first request was having test kits available for testing anyone with infection. The test kits that were sent were defective or not up to FDA / CDC standards for testing. CA gov. Newsome had explained 3 weeks ago that what was sent was only a partial test kit that was not usable. WHO (World Health Organization) was offering test kits to US, but were rejected by the jackass.

As things got worse and vary limited amount of test kits just barely getting out the door, the governors of the various blue states and the various states medical agencies had been indicating what would be needed from the National stockpile as the items in various states supplies were running out. The delivered supplies were non-working, or expired past expiration date and were useless. The governors of WA, CA, IL, NY, had mentioned these examples numerous times. In fact, red state AL received several thousand useless broken ventilators.

The only state that seems to have gotten more than their shares of medical supplies is FLA governor DeSantis because he kisses the jackass' butt everyday. The jackass plays favorites and rewards who pleases him more.

Meanwhile here is what has been really happening that US citizens should be knowing about, but are clueless since various US media outlets barely do their jobs of reporting.

Week ago, the jackass blames states for not buying equipment when they should be.
The supplies in National stockpile are what all the states put their states
tax dollars towards. That stockpile belongs to the 50 states including Puerto Rico.

It does not belong simply to the "Federal Government" such as when "super Jared" screamed out last Friday in front of the press that the the stockpile is "OURS". F off Jared.
That stockpile is everyone's not to a selected few Billionaire babies.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/wha...s-and-hospitals

Let’s talk about these seizures of PPE goods by federal authorities. There are a number of instances of this and as I noted in the post below a number of reasons why it might be happening. There are numerous cases where orders placed by states or hospitals have been canceled after they have been outbid by federal authorities or federal authorities have ordered vendors to sell to the federal government. According to Kaiser Health News, those compelled sales appear to be pursuant to an executive order President Trump signed on March 18th under authorities granted by the Defense Production Act.

But what I’m more interested in are reports of federal authorities confiscating physical shipments en route to states, local governments or regional hospital systems. The most publicized case of this came at some point in March when, according to Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker (R), a shipment of 3 million masks ordered through BJ’s Wholesale was seized by federal authorities in the Port of New York. Baker did not say which agency confiscated the goods or under what authority. That incident was what led to the widely reported and successful effort to fly goods in from China using the New England Patriots jet.

Another case happened just yesterday when the top county official in Somerset County, New Jersey, Freeholder Director Shanel Robinson, announced that a shipment of 35,000 masks had been confiscated by federal officials. According to this report in the Franklin Reporter and Advocate, “As of early in the afternoon of April 3, Robinson said that the county was told the surgical face masks would be delivered that day, but that the federal government had taken the N-95 masks.”

It’s not entirely clear from the report. But this does not sound like the federal government outbid the county or forced it to sell but rather that the physical shipment was interdicted and seized by federal authorities. Robinson said that the vendor didn’t say which agency confiscated the shipment.
--

Besides the various states in the US, Germany along with other countries that had already prepaid their orders for medical supplies have been either outbided or worse hijacked by supposed US federal personnel (likely militia mercenaries working for a scumbag).

Barbados Claims US Seized Ventilators En Route to Country

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/barbados-claims-us-seized-ventilators-en-route-to-country

By Josh Marshall

April 5, 2020 9:44 p.m.

The government of Barbados is charging that shipment of 20 ventilators it had ordered and already paid for were seized by US authorities and prevented from reaching Barbados. Minister of Health and Wellness Jeffrey Bostic told reporters at a press conference “They were seized in the United States. Paid for, but seized, so we are trying to see exactly what is going to transpire there.”

To date, the epidemic appears limited in Barbados. But cases have grown rapidly in recent days. The country has 48 ventilators but only 3 of the 56 Barbadians who have tested positive are currently on ventilator support. The country has just under 300,000 residents.

Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw placed the country on a full shelter in place order on Friday.

Which everyone of those shitshows before the press is crap and garbage since the asshole is unable to host his crazy ass rallies at this time. I say make an exception for him so all the attendees can get infected while screaming "they own libs" at some stupid show.

Here is extra crazy medicated example at recent Saturday's shitshow. That look screams "I am on adderall and drugged out to the hill."

Another example of "I am going to encourage you all to buy what I am peddling, but don't blame me if it doesn't work because I am not a doctor." Common sense is don't peddle anything unless one is willing to be held financially responsible and in all past cases he waddles away from previous actions. (casinos, bankruptcies, real estate holdings, vendors).

"...so, what do I know, I'm not a doctor. I'm not a doctor. But I have common sense."

For doctors, nurses and first responders, Trump suggested the drugs could be taken as a preventative. "They say taking it before the fact is good, but what do you have to lose?"

Experts do not suggest taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive for Covid-19 because there is no evidence yet to suggest it protects against contracting the virus.

"They say take it," said Trump, without citing any experts or sources. "I'm not looking at it one way or the other, but we want to get out of this. If it does work, it would be a shame if we didn't do it early. But we have some very good signs."

Trump said people would have to go through medical professionals to get approval, "but I've seen things that I sort of like. So, what do I know, I'm not a doctor. I'm not a doctor. But I have common sense."

So why is the jackass peddling medicine. It goes back to this deal arrangement from years earlier. And now it makes sense of why the jackass is acting like a drug pusher.

Millions of doses of "Covid drug" bought by Trump admin today from Novartis-Michael Cohen connection

Story from May 9, 2018:

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/09/novartis...mpany-says.html

Novartis paid Trump lawyer Michael Cohen $1.2 million for advice on Obamacare

Drug giant Novartis revealed Wednesday that it paid President Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen $1.2 million for health-care policy consulting work that he proved “unable” to do.

The company also said it has been questioned by special counsel Robert Mueller’s team about the payments to Cohen.

NBC News reported later Wednesday that a senior Novartis official said that Cohen reached out shortly after Trump’s election “promising access” to the new administration.

Novartis said it signed a one-year contract with Cohen’s shell company, Essential Consultants, for $100,000 per month in February 2017, shortly after Trump was inaugurated as president.

Rodney Caston
@RodneyCaston

Back on March 20th, Novartis announced it would donate 130 million doses of generic hydroxychloroquine.

Today Trump is saying the government will be purchasing the drug for the national stockpile.

Novartis is the same company Michael Cohen helped obtain access to Donald Trump.

Also: Apparently Rudy Giuliani bought loads of stock in Novartis in February and, like Trump, has been pushing the idea of using hydroxychloroquine even though it is largely untested for Covid.

While other countries have done various trials and used various methods, Australia, S. Korea, and US universities (U of Pitt) of working medicine that can keep virus in check or eliminate virus, this is what is going on with what is being peddled in front of media at WH shitshow briefings

Early trial shows hydroxychloroquine is NOT effective at treating Coronavirus

An early trial shows hydroxychloroquine is NOT effective at treating Coronavirus, but the drug does have deadly side-effects for many patients.

Trump just told the entire country to take this.

Don’t drink the Kool-Aid.

I would trust doctors with credibility compared to what a drugged out adderall medicated user spouts off.

>instead of listening to theories, conjecture, and reporters who are paid
>to make Trump look bad at all costs.

He makes himself look bad because he is bad.....at everything including bankrupting his own casinos and he is plain stupid and drugged out because he needs to be medicated or else he might be screaming maniac in front of everyone.

And to add to that, his campaign committee is unable to counter argue actual events of speeches of what he said before events of virus outbreak has taken over. So they threaten tv stations to remove advertisement because it puts the jackass in bad optics when is digging himself into a hole.

If Trump tried to take a license away from a broadcaster for airing the ad, the issue would go to court, Trump would lose.

seriously, you're fucking hopless if you think a site titled "democratic underground" is in the least bit truthful and non-biased. How about a source looking from outside of our politics?

https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factc...8-idUSKBN21C32M

And the "jackass" brought up the virus during his SOTU address... the speech Pelosi ripped up in front of the cameras...

Called a Xenophobic racist when he wanted to ban travel from China.

Called a racist for calling it a Chinese virus... Why are you people (democrats/media) so fucking retarded? The WHO states that it originated in China. It's descriptive. He never even accused them of creating it (as far as I know). He only stated his disappointment with the way they handled it and tried to keep it quiet. China, on the other hand, has tried saying that a US soldier brought it to China...

This timeline summarizes news accounts, government documents, and Think Global Health’s international chronology.

Dec. 31, 2019: China informs the World Health Organization of a pneumonia-like disease in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province.

Jan. 7: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launches its Coronavirus Incident Management System.

Jan. 11: China reports the first coronavirus death.

Jan. 27: Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar leads the first daily meeting of the President’s Coronavirus Task Force.

Jan. 29: President Trump chairs his task force and then identifies its members. Among them: Azar, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci. Fauci, an internationally recognized immunologist, has led the institute since 1984 under Democratic and Republican presidents

Jan. 30: The World Health Organization proclaims the coronavirus outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

Jan. 31: Azar declares “a public health emergency in the United States.”

Trump bans the entry of foreigners who were in China within 14 days of reaching America.

Biden denounces this “hysterical xenophobia.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., calls this “just an excuse to further his [Trump’s] ongoing war against immigrants.”

Fauci later praises Trump’s “original decision” restricting entry into the U.S. He tells journalists on Feb. 29: “If we had not done that, we would have had many, many more cases right here that we would have to be dealing with.”

Feb. 5: As expected for months, the Senate acquits Trump on two articles of impeachment, finally derailing a Democratic-built effort to overturn the 2016 election that distracted America while this pandemic incubated.

Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping confer by phone. Trump promises $100 million to help China and other coronavirus-plagued nations.

The CDC ships coronavirus test kits to some 100 U.S. laboratories.

Feb. 11:The WHO brands COVID-19, short for “coronavirus disease 2019.”

Feb. 22-24: The CDC discourages travel to and from Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea.

Feb. 26: Trump assigns Vice President Mike Pence to spearhead anti-COVID-19 efforts.

CNN attacks the “lack of diversity” in the Coronavirus Task Force, as if germs gave a damn.

Feb. 29: The Food and Drug Administration frees health diagnostics companies LabCorp, Quest and others to develop coronavirus tests and liberates states to engage some 2,000 such laboratories.

March 4: Trump meets with health insurance company leaders. They agree to cost-free COVID-19 tests.

The Coronavirus Task Force urges nursing homes to limit family visits to shield at-risk seniors from the virus.

March 6: Trump signs legislation providing $8.3 billion to respond to the COVID-19 crisis.

March 11: Trump restricts arrivals from Europe, which reels beneath this disease.

March 13: Trump declares a national emergency, unleashes $42 billion, waives student loan interest, deregulates to promote telemedicine, allows doctors to practice across state lines, and approves rules changes to make it easier for hospitals to hire new physicians.

Trump meets with Costco, Walmart and other private retailers. They soon launch drive-through COVID-19 tests.

The FDA lets Roche and Thermo Fisher produce COVID-19 tests.

March 15: Trump confers with grocers, who agree to stay open.

March 16: Phase 1 clinical trials begin on the first COVID-19 vaccine candidate, just 64 days after China isolated its genome on Jan. 12. “This is record time for the development of a vaccine,” says FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn, resulting from “an impressive public/private partnership.”

March 18: Trump signs financial relief for COVID-19’s economic casualties.

This bill’s liability protection emboldens 3M, Honeywell, and others to market N95 industrial masks for medical use.

Trump presses Navy hospital ships Comfort and Mercy into action.

March 19: Trump announces that Carnival Cruise Lines has offered to allow idled cruise ships to be used as hospitals.

March 20: Trump postpones Tax Day from April 15 to July 15, for filing and payment.

Trump and his colleagues’ labors finally have earned some of his harshest critics’ respect:

President Trump “is being the kind of leader that people need at least in tone … in times of crisis and uncertainty,” said CNN reporter Dana Bash.

“I spoke to the president this morning, again. He is ready, willing, and able to help,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., said March 17. “His team is on it. They have been responsive late at night, early in the morning. And thus far, they have been doing everything that they can do, and I want to say thank you, and I want to say that I appreciate it.”

Sure.. Keep saying Trump hasn't done anything.

See? I can post biased news sources too. But with actual clips from the actual SOTU, you can't deny its validity.

when your alternative "facts" don't pass the smell test with sources external to our system of politics, you don't have a damn fact to stand on.

JOHN BOLTON streamlining the pandemic response team, turning into "TRUMP fired the whole team", as the current example.

Go head though. Keep regurgitatting what you hear on CNN and democraticunderground. It's all 100% truth

Typical Trump cultist and unfortunately you cannot be helped.

By the way, multiple news organizations are just fine. ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, BBC, AP and some others are just fine. MSNBC is a bit to far to the left but even they offer up some news unlike FOX. FOX, Breitbart, HuffPost and a few others are not worthy of watching for any kind of reliable news.

not that I watch too much Fox (remember, I live in Japan), but feel free to prove anything they say as false. That should be fun. And Yes, Hannity fucked up his words the one time and democrats jumped all over that shit saying "See? He thinks the virus is a hoax!". Puleeze... any other time, you can CLEARLY see/hear that he is talking about Democrats spewing how Trump isn't doing shit, and hasn't done shit. There were whispers of yet ANOTHER "investigation" against Trump for his COVID19 response. THAT is what Fox is calling a hoax.

I can, on the other hand, find external news sources to retort almost any of the bullshit gregf posts from the democraticunderground.

You are sorely wrong on another point as well. I don't think Trump is a god. I know quite well, that he's a jackass who can't make a speech without sounding like under-educated trailer park trash. The problem is that not a single Democrat stands for what I stand for. EVERY ONE OF THEM are about gun laws. Even after one of our main points was made in that church, when 2 people drew and stopped the shooter (nevermind the pesky words in the constitution that say "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED"). MOST of them are pro choice. Certain situations such as those that are life-saving for the mother, and results of rape are the exception. But there is ZERO fucking excuse to wait until the third trimester. NONE (absent the life-saving clause). ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY NOT. Anyone who disagrees is a murderer, and even worse, a BABY killer. Fuck you. And some of them want to legalize abortion up to and INCLUDING BIRTH? Are you really ok with this?

And the hard-left socialistic views... proven to destroy countries throughout history, and into the PRESENT DAY.

Impeach Trump for delaying payment to Ukraine... hold up a bill meant to pay both American businesses as well as American FAMILIES. The hypocrisy is sickening.

No, I can't (and won't ever) say Trump is the best. If another Republican was running, that could obviously best the Democratic candidate, I'd surely vote for that person. There's just no way as long as I breathe, that I would EVER vote for a Democrat. That is all.

I'm also sick of every single breath of every single day being about Trump with them.
