programming
#385188 - 02/04/20 06:16 PM

i recently picked up a 'teech urslef c++" book, and i'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. i didn't realize so much shit was written in it, and i just figured it was an older language that'd be useful to help learn programming concepts. but no, lots of current operating systems and aaa games are written in it.

i was surprised my shit compiled and actually ran on my windows laptop.

so then, i've watched a ton of videos about what languages you should learn (and why), and i feel like i have a pretty good understanding of what's what as it relates to careers and hobbies. just thought i'd drop this here and see if anybody has insights or suggestions. i'm doing this for fun, with the idea that maybe it can become something more significant if i stick with it.

=)

I've been messing around a bit with node/typescript with angular. The VSCode editor has some really nice tooling around it that makes it nice to use. That was semi amusing for a few months. Maybe I will try react or rust next.

Python is always useful too. It is a really nice 'glue' language where you can hack up something semi useful pretty quickly. I have seen and written large projects in it. But I would not really recommend it for that. Sometimes it 'just happens'. Powershell falls in this same camp but the tooling is not as nice but having the power of .net to do stuff is nice though.

A cameo appearance from Orc? :-)

>Jop has learnt to read.....

I was going to guess maybe jop had something GameCube related.

Go shoot this sob in case you run into him later.
And if you don't see him, then play Pong, Breakout,
or Rebound in MAME. Or better yet, try Casio RZ-1 drum machine
emulation in MAME....you know.....one of those
electronic (non-acoustic) drum type things you hate.
