AMD Ryzen 9 3950x Benchmark MAME v0.217
#384992 - 01/13/20 01:39 PM

When I posted the i9 9900KS Benchmarks I said I'd try benchmarking the Ryzen 9 3950x if I got the chance. Today got that chance with a system with the same spec as the i9.

The results below are for a Ryzen 9 3950x with all the bios power limits removed, cooled by a 360 AIO cooler, but otherwise running stock Precision Boost. Overclock all cores is pointless because your limited to about 4.3ghz and MAME only uses a few cores, so precision boost gives you higher clock on those cores. The core clock speeds bounce between 4.1-4.7ghz depending on the number of cores under load.

Not the greatest results, so I also played around disabling most of the cores and managed a 4.5ghz overclock on 4 cores (2+2) , which was better in some benchmarks.

I then tried enable all cores again, but only overclocking one ccx, and managed 4.7ghz on 4 cores with the rest on auto (un-recommend voltages and other settings used), but the results were all over the place because Windows didn't always use the 4 fastest cores for the benchmark, and I couldn't set Core Affinity with Task Manager, because it reset after each benchmark, and I could only set it once the benchmark started.

I tested the Start command with the /AFFINITY option and it does lock the benchmark to the correct cores, but I can't get an output from MAME at the end.

The basic command I'm running in command prompt is:

Start /AFFINITY 0xf mame64.exe -bench 90

but no matter what a output capture command I add to the end, I can't get an output to a txt file or even the screen.

If someone can help me get the output working with the above command, I'll try to get some consistent benchmarks at a high clock speed on one ccx tomorrow, before I have to pack the system up.

If all else fails, Burn the manual.

This seems to work, but might not be exactly what you want ?

start /B /WAIT /AFFINITY 0xf mame64.exe -bench 90 pacman 1> foo.txt 2>&1

Thanks for that, I didn't get a chance to do any further testing on the system before it was packed up, so I'll have to wait to put it to good use.
