NPlayers 0.215 for MAME 0.215 is available now.
NPlayers and NPlayers32 have been merged in the previous release. It means that both nplayers.ini and Multiplayer.ini files are in the same archive.
MusicLovr informed me that modern MAME builds support multiplayer.ini as a custom filter. (I use EmuLoader so I didn't see that). Thanks to him.
When the first release of NPlayers happened in 2004, MAME UI didn't feature this option and you had to use either a frontend or MAME32 (now MameUI) in order to use NPlayers.
To use NPlayers in standard MAME build:
Extract the content of nplayers zip file to your MAME directory (with full path, multiplayer.ini must be in the "folders" subdirectory of your MAME directory).
- Launch MAME
- click "Custom Filter" on the left panel
- select "Category" instead of "Available"
- click "Multiplayer.ini/1P". Click "Group" to select the number of players you wish.
- if needed, click "Add filter" to add games from other categories.
