DU: Data East MCUs are on Fire!
#383704 - 09/21/19 09:23 PM

TeamEurope is at it again!!

3 New Data East 8751 MCUs have been dumped. I'm quite sure these new dumps will be added to MAME shortly.

These new dumps cover Fire Trap (Japan), Chelnov: Atomic Runner (World) and a newer revision MCU code for Birdie Try!

https://team-europe.blogspot.com/2019/09/more-data-east-mcus.html

Every time one of these MCUs gets dumped, that means the emulation is one step closer to perfect!! Also should a MCU go bad, collectors now have the code to make a replacement.

If you can help out with our efforts to source and decap these MCUs please consider donating, either an actual MCU or donate money directly to TeamEurope through the email listed in the above blog post.

Reminder: There are no guarantees any decapping effort will be successful.

Actually THIS is the perfect example of the need to get these dumped!

I bought a Fire Trap PCB to get the 8751 dumped and during the process the chip developed cracks in the die and resulted in no useful dump. This is a chance we have to take, they don't call them protection devices for no reason.

Fortunately, TeamEurope has refined their process to decap the "gold window top" versions we have a viable we to get these version dumped.

So the good news: I can program a 89C51 replacement and get my donner PCB up and running so we can try to recoup some of the cost. Then we can recycle those funds back into something MAME related.

Cheers Brian,
and thank you for your continuing work in purchasing rare PCB's and bringing your interest to these issues to the MAMEworld front page.
I look forward to your continued insights and directives regarding the collection of the remaining needed protection devices and IC's, getting them dumped, and having individual PCB's schematics done properly so that these games can be preserved and run properly in MAME.
