California Extreme - Major Havoc Homeworld
#383099 - 07/20/19 08:09 PM

Dang... bummed that I can't go this year. (Bummed that I haven't gone for over a decade, actually).

From today's news:

Major Havoc - The Homeworld Is Near!

Owen Rubin, Jess Askey, Scott Swazey

This ROM Hack (owner modification) of the original Major Havoc game released by Atari in 1983 attempts to include and improve several aspects of the game. Notably returning a Star Castle space battle and a homeworld final challenge that Owen had originally envisioned for the game before it was pushed out the door by Atari. Other improvements include; new levels, speech, new enemies, improved self-tests, game statistics, special warps and more. This session will describe and show some of the new features, give instructions on how to modify your original Major Havoc PCB to support the new game and instructions on how to patch your existing ROM's to play the game. We will also talk a bit about Scott Swazey's Major Havoc hardware FPGA implementation and some details around that project along with the Major Havoc Level Editor.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

I found a vid of the promised land in action from CAX2018
https://youtu.be/fVLxFtTHGCc
Advance to 9:31

I have often thought how cool it would be to add more content to
Sega Star Trek.
An actual Kobayashi Maru rescue, Encounter with Reliant, Countdown to genesis detonation, etc.
Redraw the saucer as Mudd’s ship
More detail for the K-7 vessels.
Resize the 3 view screens giving more to the main and less to the scanner & available supplies.

What might have been with more time and cheap large capacity roms?

Another interesting rom update, Space Wars TWOK Edition

Nice to see Jess still banging away on the code after all of these years, and now with Scott and (especially) Owen's help...

Hidden Levels

We are still in beta but the final version is not far away. Hopefully this will get added to a future official MAME release when we are finished.

For now you can play these levels via the MH Editor or the latest rom release versions using HBMAME or modify you original MH board/romset.
