DU: Mr. Gun-Man (Universal 1980)
#382809 - 06/20/19 08:58 AM

Darran got a Mr. Gun-Man pcb! It uses 2708 rom chips so it will have to be dumped a bit later and because of age we'd be extremely lucky to get a good dump but we'll see!

ClawGrip dumped an old Conexant 56K model (parallel port) and another BIOS version for the Advansys APB-930 PCI SCSI board. ClawGrip also dumped, thanks also to Juan Romero and Recreativas.org and Parramon, a version of Toki for the Modular System.

HardcoreHubz and cyberat2600 sent us a dump of Konami Tutankham for NEC PC-6001. We also got a dump of Mappy for it from the VGPC guys and an alt version of the system's BIOS.

GC8TECH sent us a dump of PGM Happy 6 in 1 (v100hk)

Please try to make sure somebody with known reliable equipment dumps it at least.

Quite a few of the Darren dumps I looked at I gave up on because they look like they either have random bad bits (not double verified? or are bitrotten?). Even the Moon Cresta set that was added in 0.210 probably needs removing as it seems to me like a bad dump, it was a set I'd already rejected as suspicious and doesn't behave properly.

Well you can rejoin the DU as long as you can behave normally but that might be a tall order for you. Anyway we requested native support.

I have no desire to join the DU. There are too many people on there who I feel are more into bootlegging than emulation (note, personal opinion, but converting games to more valuable ones and selling them is not cool) also there are several people on the list who I feel are no more than trolls. Same reason I have no interest in rejoining Mamedev.

Also I've heard little good from others (Peter etc.) who also chose to leave.

I'll point people in your direction simply because it's slightly more preferable than pointing them at Guru, and significantly preferable over them donating somewhere dumb like to RetroArch (where the money is only likely to go towards hacking up old versions of MAME or something)

Nothing like a little Haze to shit up an otherwise impossibly great news thread. Peter left because I cursed at moogly guy after he trolled me. And on that note, go fuck yourself.

Have I gotta dust off my ( ROCK 'EM SOCK 'EM ) robots ? But please be careful with them as it tends to cause people to fight rather than play. On the box it should have a warning sticker on ( Supervise children under 5 yrs ) & a box of bandages & band aids.

A nice find on Mr. Gun-Man & if a good dump is done you can always insert that video catchphrase ( It's Alive It's Alive It's Alive )

This game has been one of the higher ones on my list of "lost" games I want to see preserved, fingers crossed that a good dump can be had.

This game sounds familiar... Did another company make a ripoff I mean, a gameplay clone of it? I'm certainly curious to play it, hopefully you can get a good dump out of it.

I wonder if it's a bit like Indian Battle, which is also by Taito and from 1980:

I'm thinking home console, 2600? Something like tombstone ?

It does look familiar but I think it was a console port I played

To be honest, it was just a joke.
And yeah, it is more like a Sheriff clone. It is a homebrew-scene release for Vectrex, released a few days ago.

The Scramble cab plastic surgery gone wrong, is intended like this. Those are removals and there is some guy, who has much more bezels for Vectrex to offer. A nice gimmick .

I didn't see it on your last year's list post. *kidding*

El Fin Del Tiempo needs to no longer be on the list which is always a good thing and hopefully all the roms and proms from Mr. Gun-Man pcb will be readable and data extracted will be in good condition.

I noticed a duplicate entry of Surfer.....maybe replace one of the Surfer entries with Mr. Gun-Man?

"who has much more bezels for Vectrex to offer."

My bad. I didn't catch this sentence earlier.

Weekend Update: Emily Litella on Television Violins - SNL

Emily Litella (Gilda Radner) gives an editorial response about parents objecting to violins on television. Finally, Chevy Chase informs her the story was actually about the "violence" on televisions, not violins. Aired 05/08/76

Gilda Radner - "Lets Talk Dirty To The Animals" from Gilda Live movie special from 1980.

Thanks....that answers that. In past occasions, there have been some items that appeared from nowhere and finally documented on various web sites as coinop stuff not yet documented. I was guessing this was another of those examples.

You probably already know about this courtesy of Trev getting things started a few months ago.

Thankfully users might be able to do future gameplay comparisons should things work out.

(Andy jokingly raises a middle finger)

I was going to give you an updated, much longer wish list but it started to look too much like a thread hi-jack so I'll drop it. Maybe I'll start a new thread on the subject, it's always fun to openly fantasize about certain games being found.

Any idea how long it's going to take to see if the ROMs are still viable? I like I'm sure pretty much everyone else is dying to find out if it can be recovered.

yes, I am well aware and VERY appreciative of Vas finally doing that but as he has told me himself this is simply a skeleton driver done off of schematics and was done in hopes really that others may take it on.
I also would like to say I appreciate that Matt Ownby (Whom I consider the most knowledgeable person on the planet about the hardware) helped Vas providing him with dumps of previously undumped chips.
As far as I know that was the first time Matt has contributed to MAME, I could be wrong?
Anyway, YES I love that there is finally a STARRIDER driver in MAME but Vas did it to try and start something.
It's been some time now and nobody has touched it. :/

mr. gun-man looks like a dedicated cocktail game similar to:

Space Invaders II - made by Bally/Midway 1980

Space War - made by Leijac Konami 1979

fun for two player head to head battles.

This is probably a stupid question as no doubt something would have been said by now if it had, but were they able to get a good dump of this? I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
