Name the driving game?
#382773 - 06/16/19 08:49 PM

I've just remembered an arcade driving game I played years ago, but completely forgotten the name. My memory of it is really vague, and actually starting to even wonder if it even existed!?

The game was around the 1986–1991 timeframe. I think I played it in an arcade, though there is a chance it was on a console.

What I remember in particular was it had a man driving (perhaps also a female passenger, like OutRun). But everything was much more "cute" and simple. I think the man looked a bit like a Lego man with a round head.

I guess it most likely a Japanese game, though I did play it here in the west.

Any ideas?

Found the answer (3 years later) new [Re: Gameshow Host]

Three years later, I found the game!

It WASN'T an arcade game, it was a NES game called "Rad Racer".

You can see from the screenshot on this page that I was correct in remembering the driver looked like a Lego man!

Memory is a strange thing - I could have sworn that I had replies to this thread, but it seems no one replied! Nevertheless, I thought I would post the answer, just in case anyone wondered.

There may have been a ‘reset’ issue or web bugs in the past in which some posts may have been cleared out.

Good that you found the name. Still have folks that have bad luck in not finding game names of rare games, not yet emulated, nor any flyers or any type of info other than they remember the mysterious unknown game.
It is as if that person is being punished for no reason and his search has been ongoing for over two decades.

Some users such as one person recalled the name Planet Probe and no one knew anything about the game until it was emulated back in November 2012. That person really lucked out.

Ah, I strongly suspect that happened because I really do remember getting replies to this!

Oh that sucks. In my case I got lucky - I was watching an 80s movie called The Wizard, and the kids in that movie were actually playing this game on the NES!

It's nice to be back here for a visit. Brings back happy memories of the late 90s/early 2000s when I was more involved with MAME, a regular on the original MAME forum.

I'm still a huge fan of retro games and don't like modern games at all. I especially love FM chip music! :-)

These days I'm mostly part of the ZX Spectrum community, which is as retro as it comes :-)

As for this forum, I am not a far of this kind of nested forum, I think that will put people off. Puts me off to be honest! (No offence inteneded.)

The thread in case wondering what is being searched for.

That is a fortunate break. With assistance from Dan (Flyer Fever web site) back in early 2003, the last game
name that was on my search list was film reel game Nintendo Skyhawk. Other folks like Pete and a few others
eventually found the game names they were looking for. Moose is still searching for a couple game names.

The one pong clone game (Ping Pong) shown in the 1974 movie Juggernaut on MASH’ movies site had me searching around until a few years ago when I found out it was from UK. The company was Alca that had marketed Alca’s Ping Ping back then.

Unless everything on your wish list is completed, there are still coinop items that surface unexpectedly that some users thought could never be found or finally fixed to a working state.
Some stuff that you were guessing might not be emulated might actually already be emulated within past couple years such Irem’s Green Beret or Nihon’s Monster Z.

There have been several updates in MAME over past year or so improving support of the computer.
The emulation of the Mindset computer system a couple years earlier by OG was impressive itself.
