X-Arcade joystick working but not in MAME
#382441 - 05/11/19 01:42 AM

Hello!

I am sure you've had this question before, but I have not found it.

I have an old PS2 X-Arcade 2 joystick set. It worked just fine with MAME on another computer that was running XP.

I now have it plugged into a new machine using 7. The software is the same (I copied it over) and I've also tried using a new MAME program.

The situation is as follows. Even though the joystick clearly works (in notepad, it moves the cursor around the screen), and even though the buttons work, the joystick does not do anything in any of the games.

Any help you can render would be appreciated. Please do not say "Get a new/USB X-Arcade set" -- that can't be the issue.

Thank you!

That's strange, what happens when you define P1 UP, DOWN etc under Player 1 controls?, nothing?.

There is a setting called "Default input layout" that maybe can help you, but I don't know where is it in mame. (In mameUi you can get it at Options, Default System options, Controllers Tab.

This one is just a guess...

In your CTRLR folder, there is a controller setup file for X-Arcade by default. As you are using a PS2 version, but MAME is looking for a USB version, they could be conflicting, if defined in your INI file.

That your controller works in notepad means something is conflicting somewhere... that is for sure.

First thing is try a completely fresh setup of MAME (download it, create a new INI file). If the controller works in the fresh setup, then you know you have a conflict somewhere in your current setup, which could mean delete DEFAULT.CFG in your CFG folder... or check the CTRLR line in your MAME.INI file.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.
