List of working Software list systems
#382273 - 05/02/19 04:19 PM

What actually works and what doesn't? It seems that most systems that I try won't even run because of missing files. I can at least load some C64 stuff, but I can't run NES or Apple II because of files missing. But I use the P D place to grab the whole set, and to keep it updated.

Is there a list of software list systems that have all bios/system files available and actually loads games/programs?

I get this when trying to run Apple2, with or without specifying a game:

X:\Mameui64>mame64 apple2
a2.chr ROM NEEDS REDUMP
WARNING: the machine might not run correctly.
Fatal error: Device 5.25" single density floppy drive load (-floppydisk2 apple2_flop_misc: pirates:flop2) failed: File not found

Edit: Ok, mame can't find the disk. How do I configure that? It's in pirates.zip, of course, in Software/apple2

It may not work on an original Apple 2. Disks don't autoboot and there may be memory shortoomings as well. Machine 'apple2e' should be the best all-around for booting software. That 'pirates' floppy booted and seemed to play ok for me in testing.
Your output suggests you are forcing it to use -floppydisk2 for some reason? Perhaps you have/had writeconfig on and saved a previous session? (check .cfg and/or .ini folders for possible settings files being used). Remember, your software folder needs to be included in your rompath in mame.ini/mess.ini to work correctly.

E.G. rompath roms;software

You also do not need to physically POINT to any softlist items, as rompath will take care of the location.

E.G. mame64 apple2e pirates

Well, dang. I feel stupid. I looked at mame.ini and had paths like

rompath X:/Mameui64/Roms
swpath X:/Mameui64/Software

Edited rompath to

rompath Roms;Software

and deleted all other .ini and .cfg files that didn't look like default files.

"mame64 apple2e pirates" now loads, and even uses the artwork. Thank you so much!

Now... if only I can figure this out using Emuloader and/or GameEX Evolution...

EDIT: Hands down, Emuloader wins. Now that the dumb path mistake was corrected for Mame, Emuloader works like it should

Too much stuff going on in GameEX Evolution, and I have better things to do with my time than to figure it out (like... actually try the games out using Emuloader instead of wondering why nothing works on GameEX).
