MAMEUI64 0.206 with WIndows 10 October update 2018 - GUI does not appear
#381181 - 02/20/19 09:25 PM

Hello
I'm an old time retro gamer.
I stopped following MAME in 2015 where i last downloaded MAME 0.161.

Now it's time to get back and yestarday i downloaded MAMEUI 0.206.
My system is composed by a Core Duo Quad QX6800CPU + NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 updated with latest firmware and video drivers, 8GB RAM and Windows 10 October 2018 build. Directx runtime is updated also.

Problem is that when i try to launch MAMEUI64 0.206, MAME UI loads into ram (i see it in task manager) but i don't see appearing the GUI.

Old MAMEUI64 0.161 GUI opens correctly.

What's wrong?

Can you please kindly help me?

Thank you so much.

Did you extract the entire new package or just copy over a couple of files?

It is recommended to extract everything in these packages since your last update. Important files are updated all the time & can cause many types of problems...

Try extracting it all to a new folder & see if it works that way.

You can also try "mame -cc" from the command line & have it make new ini files for you.

Good luck! Hope that helps...

I extracted a brand new package from MAMEUI.EXE 7-ZIP Archive.
GUI stills doesn't appear.

With MAMEUI 0.161 it opens correctly.

What can be wrong in my system?

If you only extracted the new files over your old installation it still won't work because it wouldn't have over-written your old mame.ini file. Rename your old mame.ini to mame-old.ini to back it up & try running it again.

Did you try running "mameui64.exe -cc" or whatever your binary is, to create the correct ini file?

Hope that works...

I extracted the files in a brand new folders. Tried some different hard disk units, even c:\ . Tried also to launch MAMEUI64.exe alone.
Nothing: MAMEUI64 loads into memory but the GUI doesn't appear (opens) at all.

With MAMEUI64 0.161 it works like a charm.

2 other quick things to try...

-right click on the short-cut to mame & click "Run As Administrator".

-right click on the task bar & unlock it, then right click on it again & re-lock it.

Don't ask why those would work, but they have for some people. From what I gather, the issue is probably from the OCT Windows update. There are many others with similar problems with all kinds of different programs due to the update.

Maybe someone else here has an idea of what else to try. Sounds like a MAME gfx setup problem but if you've started fresh it must be something else... Sorry...

Here are a few other "Official" things you can try:
