I Can't wait for the tech writeup and see how the programming was finally figured out for these. I kept quite a few around even when they were dead

Damn impressive imo.
This is the info that should be asked for permission to include within hardware related MAME source code files to ensure it doesn't get lost over time since web sites come and go. Granted it won't include visuals, but having text/info details is important.
I hope pcb owners use this to keep their Sega pcbs still working because there are still many alternate versions that have yet still not been found and dumped and preserved in MAME at this time.

I honestly can't fathom the kind of derailed train of thought that would make a person think that being able to reflash a dead encrypted CPU would have anything to do with emulating the video hardware of Sega System 24.

lol that means NO. (By the way, I like your rhetoric)
PS basically lack of knowledge, being at the office not being able to read the whole article and that figuring out copy protections helped improving graphics emulation in some games in the past....Ah, and my yearn to see that game fixed!
