I couldn't find the exact post, but likely him (maybe with a different name?) mentioning how there was a Royal Ascot unit at someplace in Las Vegas (iirc) and it had to be saved. It was a lengthy post iirc with an argument that these games need to be saved.
Good luck to whoever (Luca Elia maybe?) tries to tackle Sega Royal Ascot later.

One can bet there will be 3D models wish list requests of the Sega Royal Ascot cab unit in case Sega Royal Ascot ever gets emulated to be in full working state (video monitor-wise)
btw: Joe12345's post also mentions the Aristocrat MK5 / MKV hardware gambling game of Mine Mine Mine. I don't know how much playable the Aristocrat MK5 games are, but maybe some are somewhat playable.
I've honestly no idea what constitutes a complete set for a lot of these tho.. it seems each game was a unique setup, so unless somebody has one working to know exactly what boards were where then it's still going to be a bit of a nightmare.
still, the more dumps the better.

This is where Andy Welburn could come in handy especially if he can track down all of Sega Royal Ascot technical paperwork manuals schematics everything.
I already envision the Royal Ascot manual being the size of two Tolstoy's War and Peace books glued together. Probably require a Hyster forklift to move manual around the warehouse in case a repair staff member needs to search through manual to repair specific items.
>still, the more dumps the better.
Yep. I hope there will be enough for someone to get any head start with Royal Ascot.

What I know about these satellite terminal games in general:
Networking is the same on their respective hardware. Royal Ascot links the same way as with other Sega X Board games like Super Monaco GP albeit the use of ten boards. The "server" board and roms has its link id set to master while any other boards, client or live, would be set to "slave". I'm pretty sure the program roms would determine their network id and function but idk if it's the case for all games.
I can't tell how Royal Ascot will turn out. I like seeing network emulation done but satellite terminal games are a bit overkill to me.

well the ones we do have board lists for have a central board, the board for the main screen, a board for each of the terminals, a board for the mechanical parts etc.
some of them will probably never be emulated; that Sega 'Pontoon' thing we have a dump of is likely a screen for a setup that likewise requires more boards, and that scarily used one of the encrypted FD1094 CPUs
due to their size, and long term cost of maintaining these, vs. the fact that they're unlikely to be profitable anymore (maybe not even legal) puts them highly at risk, so it would be nice to see complete setups emulated one day.
Is the old rev with the bet 60 system or the newer one?
I have read a bit on line about the game. So I think there is 1 display on inside that shows payout % and lets the casino set stuff in the master station.
Now it may work with just one satellite up and this can have more satellites then just what is on the base unit
I know that sigma derby will work with when some of the satellite units are not working. Bill at MGM knows alot about that game.
never played this and the royal ascot was not put though or did not make it the Nevada Gaming Commission system.

MGM Grand is done with Sigma Derby any one want to call them about rom dumps?

If this is in Nevada, you might have to write it off because the businesses in such states (NJ and NV) still have to follow gambling laws guidelines that any machines have to be torn apart once no longer in use. That's why it is a blessing that any gambling titles that are added to MAME such as any of the PEPlus hardware should be considered a minor miracle since most of them have been torn apart by this time.
With some of the gambling laws now somewhat loosened by recent US Supreme Court ruling such as team sports betting is now allowed in all states (each state now sets up its own specific gambling laws), maybe a better chance that any of the gambling/gaming cabs won't be destroyed as quickly.
Only way I can see Sigma Derby being preserved is if someone working inside the business is willing to make backups of roms and send anonymous or maybe someone on DU group will come across various pcb pieces like what has been done with Royal Ascot.
I don't know if there is anyone on this forum these days that is familiar with these units. Maybe Jim Stolis was, but I don't know if he posts here like he used to.

Well there was / is an non working one at boardwalk arcade in NJ.

Better links imo
for buying any spare parts: useful for those that want to simulate the cab 3D model aspect, but does anyone want to spend a decent amount of money for some of those parts?
And moving on to Sigma Derby manual etc which is what is needed to be aware of what all is involved in trying to emulated the video game part and simulate the external portions of the game that are not video related.
If the video portion of Sega's Royal Ascot can be up and running in MAME eventually, consider that a victory in itself. As for Sigma Derby, I guess that means it makes it that much more of an uphill challenge. If the roms can be dumped and supported/documented in MAME assuming you can find all the needed Sigma Derby pcbs for starters, that is a start since that is one of the reasons why Nicola S. started MAME all the many years ago.
The bigger challenge is you or someone else will have to buy the various extraneous parts and pieces and find someone that has major artwork experience and has lots of spare time to put everything together to get some form of simulation of the game running. One thing still needed is purchasing some of those horse/jockey figures and then have someone do 3D software modeling of each one of those figures. And then really hope that MAME artwork rendering output gets some substantial upgrade such as true 3D support in the future. There has been good progress along the way, but maybe still a ways to go.
The best current example is look at actual Sega Space Tactics cab operation on youtube videos and notice all that visual hardware stuff is still yet to be supported in MAME. It is like that with a lot of other items in MAME still missing needed artwork support although there are some pretty good simulations used with some of the supported games at this time.
