MAMEWorld Forums - EmuChat - Hard reset vs. soft reset and high score saving

I have an old note on my controller file explaining why I swapped the keyboard inputs for soft and hard reset. I noted at the time that soft reset would clear high scores on games (I assume the ones not supported by hiscore.dat) while hard reset wouldn't.

However, this was many versions of MAME ago. With latest MAME rev, I can't seem to reproduce this behavior of wiping out high scores on games that support high score saving through nvram or those that don't and require using hiscore.dat, with either soft or hard reset.

Does anybody know what form of reset clears high scores, if any?
