Dual monitor setup help
#379387 - 11/06/18 02:57 AM

I have two monitors, a 32" and 27".

The 32" is 75 hz, 1440p

The 27" is 60 hz, 1080p

I currently have the 32" hooked up through a Display port. My PC only have one display port. So, I'd have to hook up my 27" through a HDMI.

When both monitors are setup, will my PC force my 32" monitor to run at 60 hz instead of 75 hz? Are there any downsides of having both monitors hooked up?

(This is a MAME related hardware question since I plan on using one of the monitors for MAME, while the other one for other stuff)

Also, should I enable any of the following options in MAME?

* Triple buffering
* Sync to monitor refresh
* Wait for verticle sync

I don't know if HDMI does that. When I had two displays, the DVI was running at 75Hz and DP at 60Hz no problem.

No downsides that I can think of. I loved having two monitors for translation work and recording. One was rotated, so yeah, all vertically oriented arcade games running on that one it's just great having the extra space for work.

That's a moot point because if you plan on doing anything meaningful on the other monitor, you'll be running MAME in a window, which means that none of those settings will do anything.

I have a very strange setup. I have 3 monitors connected to my Gigabyte 970. First (primary) monitor is a Samsung S27C750 27" LED that rotates to either vertical or horizontal to play games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong the way they were meant to be played. Second is a 21" NEC CRT MultiSync FE2111SB for when I really want a true 4x3 to play the games the way they were meant to be played. Got this one for free from an office who was getting rid of it when they all went LCD. Finally I have a 55" LED Samsung TV on the other side of the room that has a very long HDMI cable going from the back of the computer, under the floorboard along the wall to the TV that sits behind me. Also have a 3 port USB hum wired the same way sitting under the TV, to plug my X-Arcade Tankstick, Bliss Box 4-play, Dolphin Box or any other USB controllers into for playing anything on the big TV without facing the computer. Typically, I have the TV mirror what is on screen 1 (Samsung monitor), but a few mouse clicks I can have all three running seperate displays. I usually do this when I want to work on the computer and have TV or videos running in the background. I have no problems at all with refresh rates or anything else with this crazy setup. Runs great, I love it, and friends are blown away when they see it for the first time.
