DU: Zombies and bingo
#379339 - 11/03/18 09:20 PM

SpinalFeyd dumped the Japanese PC game Zombie Driver.

Darksoft got 3x SystemSP PCBs, two of them are Bingo Galaxy main and satellite boards dated 28.05.2009. The 3rd board is broken and won't boot so we don't know what it is yet.

Can anyone contribute to PC rips? I've got some rare games, some unreleased games and some Japanese import games I could rip, if there's a guide how to do that?

This is a WIP but depending on who you ask, there are multiple methods and I think mamedev will accept more than 1 dumping method and some of this info extracted is only currently used by some groups and not mamedev. Nobody send me tech questions, just take it or leave it or ask F1ReB4LL. If you want to send in a dump you can rar it all up and up it to a host like mega and send me the link and the credits and I can make sure it gets sent out to several mamedevs and people in various preservation groups.

PC CD Game Dumping - The Full Monty Version 0.0 (alpha)
info: F1ReB4LL
editing: Smitdogg

There are multiple ways to dump a PC CD. This is an extensive preservation effort format constructed by F1ReB4LL to get all the info you could ever need.

Get a Plextor drive from the following list off eBay or other source:
IDE Models: PX-760, PX-755, PX-716, PX-714, PX-712, PX-708, PX-704, Premium2, Premium, PX-W5224, PX-4824, PX-4012
SCSI Models: PX-W4220T, PX-32TS/CS, PX-83CS/85CS, PX-63CS/65CS, PX-43CS 43CE 43CH/45CS 45CE 45CH, DM-3028/5028, DM-3024/5024, DM-3021/5021, DM-3020/5020
708UF is an external version of PX-708, it’s good. SATA models have “A” at the end, they are also fine.

https://github.com/saramibreak/DiscImageCreator/releases
Dump your disc using the “DiscImageCreator.exe cd X: dump 4 /c2” where X: is the letter of your drive. Additionally, you can run it with “DiscImageCreator audio X: TOC-PREGAP 4 -5000 -1100” afterwards to preserve the TOC and the -150 to -1 sectors (pregap).

TOC+pregap contains the last iteration of TOC extracted from the dump and the whole pregap area (MAME may decide to switch to full monty dumps some day). subdump tool:

Try to use the plex_d8.cmd command, the other 3 will be useful for dealing with protected discs (like, reading with the plextor’s 0xD8 command wipes out SecuROM protection sectors, 0xBE should be used for them). Be patient because it reads the disc 5 times before producing a final sub.

As in, the guy who's been going around Discord shitting on the MAME team and bitching endlessly about how awful the team actually is about preservation? That F1ReB4LL?

You seem to have mistaken me for someone who hangs out at Discord.

Sigh. I tried contributing stuff to Redump (I have a friend who helps with console game dumping) but the ridiculous requirements for a Plextor drive just drove me away. I can provide a bit by bit match copy of a dump with my hardware but they refuse to even consider it because it's not a Plextor.

Being a serious dumper means buying some equipment, either 1 piece or 100.

Can't you send the things that need dumping to someone who has the hardware?

Secondly, so what happened to the games, and what do you need? (only a Plextor?)

Maybe if I lived in the US, but I don't, and I already have enough problems dealing with Mexican customs trying to charge me taxes on anything I cross over from the states, new or not.

They're still here. Most of my collection is still intact... but I guess I'll concentrate on things I can actually work on with my current hardware instead. Most of my collection is common stuff, anyway.

I have never heard of these Magical Plextor drives before, but I do have two copies of a very rare CD that was an EP.
One will not play at all on any drive I've tried and the other will play but not in any useful way just bits and pieces.

I just bought one of the drives on the list and I will report back on this thread whether or not it preforms any different than the drives I have already tried!

Where did you try to play it - in your computer, or an actual CD player?

I own a couple of DVDs that are completely unreadable on Windows, but that work fine on set top disc players. I think there was some weird issue with mastering that broke the discs on Windows, but I can't tell for sure.

Both, These are discs that played fine years ago when I got them but they seem to have been manufactured in a way or out of a material (They are a gold color) that just didn't withstand the test of time.

It's the best evidence of "DISC ROT" I've ever seen, a pristine disk only played maybe 5 times that just won't play in the way it was intended. Full of seeks and whatnot....
