I have no personal need for one so this is just idle curiosity on my part, but will it now be possible to reproduce these chips on perhaps an FPGA or something so as to replace bad originals? Anything that helps preserve original hardware is always in itself a step forward and of course dead customs are usually the biggest obstacle in that.
