running mame with syncrefresh is super for smooth scrolling without tearing in layman's terms what kind of sync is mame using for no tearing? i get that is modifying the game speed, but how is that there is no tearing?

It sets the clock speed so that the emulated screen has the same refresh rate as the monitor. It sacrifices accuracy for tearing reduction. Unlike vsync, I don’t believe it adds any additional input lag.
Try out the waitvsync and triple buffering options as well.
