MAME build that sorts games out by hardware?

I'd like to know if there's a MAME build which sorts titles out by hardware. I mean things like CPS1, MVS, Taito F3, Seta SSV, Sega System 16, Irem M72, etc. It'd basically list all games that run in the respective hardware, separated from the ones from other systems.
That's all. Some help would be much appreciated.

You can use QMC2 and have the list sorted by source file

Same for MAMEUI, a little easier to set up than QMC but for how long? No one knows...

Is it really easier than just specifying the EXE location and the folders...?

Emu Loader can also sort by driver. My frontend is very easy to setup. Just select a MAME binary, configured mame.ini to point to ROMs folders and snap folder (either manual .ini edit or thru the frontend), let it create games list and done.

There's also several arcade filters to choose from, but they only show the system and/or driver you select.

It's better not to question, just nod with despair and pity, same way you would if somebody came up to you and said they still run Windows 95 as their primary OS.

I can speak for my frontend, Emu Loader. I made it as easy as possible. When doing a clean install, all you need to do is select a MAME binary and, if MAME ROM path is already configured in mame.ini, just hit Ok button and wait for the games list to be created and games audited. I can't be easier than that.

Right, they're all really easy, and once set up offer a lot more flexibility and power than MAMEUI does if you want to use it.
They're also less fragile as they're actively maintained and updated codebases, and also mean you can use properly compiled official MAME binaries, not ones which seem to be randomly based off code that isn't the actual release code or compiled with a different version of the compile tools than the recommended ones.
It's a case of "this is what I've always used, so I'm going to keep using it and say it's easier" It's an unwinnable argument.

because MAMEUI + derivatives are both pieces of shit compared to the far better offering people are pumping a lot of time into actively developing, and that point needs making?

If you say so, but apart from a handful of idiots I'd say the tide was turning. I just have to make sure to put out the correct information whenever the subject comes up.
I consider it the same as people saying that the Raspberry Pi is a good MAME platform, it's misinformation, so if I see it, I'll correct it.
There are plenty of people dedicating lots of their own time to making far better MAME frontends that are easier to use and far more capable, I'll give them the respect they deserve, and ensure people know about them rather than falling back to some old piece of junk that hasn't seen real advancements in over a decade.
Simple respect, and giving credit where it's due thing.

>> Emu Loader, from what I've heard doesn't support multiple paths for pictures and seems bedevilled by bugs.
For the life of me, I'm still trying to understand why someone would place their snap collection in different folders. You have either snap.zip and/or unzipped images. It's logical to put them in one place.
Put snap.zip in \mame_snap_dir\snap.zip and the unzipped ones in \mame_snap_dir\snap\gamenames.???. This is enough in my book. Scattering snap files in different paths is just wrong.
That is why my frontend doesn't support mulitple image paths per category... it simply makes to sense to me. Until someone can show me otherwise, I see no point in searching snaps (zipped or unzipped) in different folders.
Bugs ? Yes, the frontend was filled with them not so long ago. It started after merging my console/computer frontend EmuCon with the arcade frontend Emu Loader. I've been fixing a crap load of bugs for the past 5 months. The frontend is so much more stable since then.

It's only been about a month according to the bug tracker
snapshots work just fine. They're listed as Preview in Tools/Options/ front end / files and directories tab
What exactly do you mean by category.ini support is limited? https://imgur.com/a/cTyylz3
Curious that someone couldn't get snaps or anything else to work when QMC2 has the most detailed Documentation I've ever seen.

I think we might be talking about different issues. You're talking about using mulitple MAME versions. My frontend only supports one version of MAME at a time, and that was my point. Maybe you're using the same mame.ini for different MAME builds ?
For one MAME version, you have unique single paths for each image category. But MAME allows you to define multiple paths for snaps, mulitple paths for titles, etc... that is what the frontend does not support.
snapshot_directory snap;d:\old_mame055\mysnaps\
Only the first path "snap" will be read by Emu Loader, ignoring everything else after the first ; char it finds.
I would also keep a separate snap pack for each MAME build as games database might be different. Each MAME build would use its own mame.ini, ui.ini with unique image paths for that particular build.

Sorry, you lost me again. Do you have both "E:\MAME\SNAP" and "E:\MESS\SNAP" in the same mame.ini file or have two separate emulator install folders, one for MAME and one for MESS.
You cannot use both MAME binary and MESS binary at the same time with Emu Loader. The main games list is built out of one emulator.
I can't see how this would work with Emu Loader.

Ok. I did some work on this a couple weeks ago but the code can't be updated to handle mulitple paths, it has to be completely rewritten. Will probably break a bunch of other features. Thank you.
