latest round of indictments
#377580 - 07/13/18 08:55 PM

Although these latest are against Russian operatives at this time, expect future indictments to be against Americans involved.

Seth's twitter updates provides lots of detailed explanations and worth time reading.

Seth Abramson on the Indictment -- REALLY interesting

One of the names (aside from familiar names Manafort, Cohen, Flynn, etc) that might be first American charged could be Tim Canova. A DU forum poster explains why Tim Canova is first on the next round of indictments.

I would seriously consider Tim Canova, DWS primary challenger.

He stood to benefit most from the hacked emails that put DWS in a controversial light and lead to her resigning as DNC chair.

He has since quit the Democratic Party, bashed the Mueller investigation and defended Russia, and spread bogus Seth Rich conspiracy theories.

His campaign was egged on by far right media personalities like radio host Joyce Kaufman.

He seemed like a clear stalking horse meant to fracture and undermine the Democrats from within. Nevins is based out of Broward, where Canova is. I really think we should consider Canova as a possibility here.

lawfare blog analysis new [Re: gregf]
#377586 - 07/14/18 09:36 AM

What the analysis is regarding this round of indictments is office of Special Council is working first at filing indictments at foreign adversary participants and showing their operations and routines of how they affected various US elections targets: voting registration data whether from county commissions and/or states voters registration data, and then using data to target social media in attempts to influence voters in upcoming general elections.

Expect future round of indictments will have names of US citizens that were involved in the criminal conspiracy. Although the word 'collusion' will be used by US media, the actual term should be 'criminal conspiracy' which is far worse compared to 'collusion' as explained by those in background of legal matters. I don't recall if it was Laurence Tribe or former US District Attorney Preet Bahara [fired in early 2017], or Sally Yates that had that opinion. And these were folks working for past previous GOP administrations as well as Obama administration. So they are not partisan hacks.

Lawfare: Indictment does not in any sense foreclose possibility of criminal involvement by Americans

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100210868481

--

The statement is largely accurate, as is the Rosenstein statement on which it draws. This indictment does not charge or allege specific criminal misconduct by any American. And it is careful—as was the indictment in February—not to sweep broadly in its claims about people on this side of the Atlantic. That said, the indictment does not in any sense foreclose the possibility of substantial, knowing and even criminal involvement by Americans.

This indictment, by contrast, offers a potential factual breakthrough. It tells us that the prior factual premise was wrong: the alleged conduct violating the CFAA continued to occur throughout the summer of 2016. That affects the earlier analysis in two ways. First, it makes clear that the Russians did intend to release the information at the time the hacking occured. Second, and perhaps more important, the indictment alleges that the criminal hacking conspiracy was ongoing at the time individuals in the Trump campaign were in contact with charged and uncharged Russian conspirators, raising the possibility of more straightforward aiding and abetting liability.

Ex-Watergate Prosecutor Drops Bomb: Mueller Prepping Indictments For Trump Campaign Officials new [Re: gregf]
#377612 - 07/15/18 04:55 PM

One of the names involved back then that I was too young of an age to get understanding of why it was important back then. The only names that stand out are some of the criminals that were charged and also the notable names of reporters covering the case Washington Post's reporters Woodward and Bernstein and their supervisor/editor Ben Bradley.

What Nick Akerman's opinions in this case are going by his past experiences in the field are relevant and we will eventually/hopefully will see what happens in next couple weeks or months from the work of the staff on Special Council.

Ex-Watergate Prosecutor Drops Bomb: Mueller Prepping Indictments For Trump Campaign Officials

Former Watergate Prosecutor Nick Akerman dropped a bomb on Saturday, saying the details in Robert Mueller’s Friday indictment of 12 Russians indicate that the special counsel is preparing similar indictments of Trump campaign officials.

Akerman said “there is no way” the Russians would have been able to carry out their aggressive attack on U.S. democracy without the help of people on the ground from the Trump campaign.

What Akerman said...

-
There is no way, no how that the Russians would have enough political sense and have enough feel for what the game on the ground is without having spotters and people in the Trump campaign directing this. And if you look at this indictment, it is filled with incredible details about the Russians. I mean, this is not gathered just based on forensic evidence. And they know. They know who the Americans are. They know who is going to be indicted. And they’re in the process now of putting that evidence together so they can convict these people beyond a reasonable doubt.
