And they certainly don’t care about your career as a respected academic or any fancy television interviews taking place in your office.

I can concur that cats do act odd and out of character when you're doing something out of the ordinary. I had a black tom-cat that would start meowing at me if I'd ever do anything like read something aloud, or even sing. Especially singing.
He passed away a few years ago.
And my other cat (a calico) one day, for whatever reason, she got up on my shoulder and just sat there. That one definitely got a pic and upload to Facebook.
My roommate in college had a kitten. One day I was taking a shit and it curled up in my undies between my legs. When I stood up, the little bastard reached up and grabbed my balls. I never let him in the bathroom again after that.
