The majority of the recent work on the platforms was an external contribution (which improved many of them to close to working state, albeit with some flaws inherited from the not-too-great NES emulation in MAME)

Getting them dumped is a different process, many were dumped by 'BeckieRGB' although a lot were dumped by other people with no contact with the MAME team, and found in existing collections.

Depending on if they use 'blobs' or regular ROMs the dumping process can be quite different. For regular ROM types there are a lot of people capable of dumping them.
