Me and my project
#375293 - 04/02/18 04:20 AM

Hi.

I thought I would introduce myself and such. I'm from ONtario, Canada and I am looking into building my own tabletop arcade unit. I have an old PC kicking around with a small SSD and a large storage drive. I figured that I've been playing some of my old arcade favourites so much why not get the genuine experience. I was going to order an inexpensive set of buttons and sticks from the interwebs, find an appropriate size screen and go buy some MDF. (I have a local cartoonist who is going to come in and design the artwork for the whole cabinet with 80s and 90s arcade characters.)

i've mostly been playing TMNT, Time Pilot, KI2, Ninja Baseball Batman, Robotron and Donkey Kong. I like the 360 controller for the dual sticks. Makes Robotron and Smash TV so much fun.

i've been using MameUI64 0.154 and it's met my needs but I can't seem to get any original copies of the Street Figher series from II and up. A few speed hacks and stuff for II Turbo and World Warrior. As much as I love the original Street Fighter cabinet game (Amazing memories of myrtle Beach)) I miss playing II as it was.

So I figured i'd browse around to see if I can answer some of the questions I have in regards to why some ROMS just won't work, which front ends are best for multi-machine arcade cabinets and all thatother fun stuff. I'll post pictures of the build if anyone is interested.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

If MAME says you are missing files, then either you're trying to run a clone set without having the parent set, or you have outdated (and therefore incomplete) ROMs or you're missing a system BIOS set. Sometimes a game hasn't been fully dumped but there is a specific warning screen for that.

You can use the command line parameters -listroms and -verifyroms (or the audit function in your MAME front-end) to find out what you need to look for.

Find the missing files (duh) Using an older version of MAME can make this difficult. 0.154 is nearly four years old.

Read this to learn about ROMs and the concept of parent/clone relationships:
