Annoying sound lapse Mortal Kombat & Killer Instinct
#375097 - 03/25/18 04:28 PM

Hi Guys,

above named games are very good to play on MAME.
I have both on Console and PCB. So i know the differences.
BUT one thing is a lil bit strange.

On both Games when a heavy combo hits an enemy there
is a snap sound to hear. Even when a big foe falls down after
beeing hit.

I dont know how to start troubleshooting.

Soundcard ?
Speakers ? Sounds like clipping ....

Anybody know this issue ?

Kind regards

So for so gooooooood

Found the problem ...

The Volume in the Arcade Machine Setting was at Maximum.
So thats why the sound starts to clip. I lowered the volume down to 70 %
and encreased the level on the AMP ( Hifi ) and everthing sounds fine.

yep, that's the correct way to do things, and why they default to low in the first place.

a lot of people will give the (bad) advice to increase the volume in service mode to make it the same as other games, but the way you're doing it on your amp is the correct way.

Thanx

i just tested different ways but my described way is that one with
the best result. So i hope this will help other people solving
this problem.

So, the default volumes are already correct ? I never mess with individual chip volumes in games, only the master emu volume.

the default volume for the game is optimal, even if it's a lot quieter than most other games.

casual users want everything to be the same volume instead, which is a really bad idea.

PinMAME Dev got some of the pinball ROM's load up as Default sounds setting. Be very low. I hear the musics a little. Bumpers and other things be louder than the musics. I hated that.

l don't know how you guys got the musics set as for the Pinball ROM's. I never loaded one to find out. lol
