Any 23andMe fans in the house?
#374599 - 03/11/18 06:35 PM

I just got my results back and well I’m not as Scottish as mother suggested.
Very surprised that I don’t have more relatives in Canada.

Then I thought, they should have a test for “likely to enjoy video games more then others”

Anyone else here done the test?
Perhaps if we add “Mame Fan” to our bio it would create a cross reference.

Don't do it new [Re: TrevEB]

At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist goofball or some shit, those things are the dumbest dice roll you could ever do with your money. Going to Vegas and putting that money in any gamble is 1 million times a better way to spend it.

My friend now has his family (and potentially inheritance) wrecked over ancestry.com. Even ignoring the fact that the FBI can "sopena" your DNA for past crimes from those places against their and your will so you might as well walk into the FBI and ask them to take your blood sample for any past or future crimes, it can go south worse than you can imagine.

Let's see if it was a good deal for my friend's dad. I'll try to keep it short and skip over most of the stories because the gist is all you need. This started about 1 year ago and now is a day to day nightmare. His elderly retired (bored) dad decided to do it. Weeks later found out he knocked up a girl in Korea (now deceased) during the Korean War and now has relatives that made their way to the states, including a daughter living in the midwest who is now in her late 40s. At first she seemed (played) sweet (of course to this guy, he's old enough to be starting to lose his marbles either way, has not been able to make smart decisions with money in over a decade) and said she just wanted to meet, wanted the relatives to meet each other to be a family blah blah don't want money bullshitting blah.

Slowly she begins siphoning small amounts of money for this and that that she "needs", usually only around $200 at a time, then one occasion she asks and gets $5,000. She invites him out to meet and the first night he is there she takes him to a restaurant where they meet with her friends and family, and they get there and over 110 people are in the party. They chow down and then ask him to pay the whole bill. Skipping over a few similarly depressing stories and manipulation and guilt tripping, she is now trying to get in the guy's will to inherit his house, literally said "I don't want any money, I just want the house".

Just accept the fact that you are white or black or whatever.

Your friend should get power of attorney and end that. Once the money is gone the drama will leave all by itself.

He and his brother are in the process of trying to stop it legally but I don't really have the details other than his dad is already duped into the situation saying things along the lines of she is my daughter.

No doubt there are going to be downsides to anything. Sure, insurance companies are going to get a hold of my DNA results and peg me as a future cripple. To late, I already done that. I am totally a “pre-existing conditions” winner. As for hot Korean girls getting my inheritance. To late. Everybody’s dead Dave. And my family doesn’t have squat even though my great granddad invented the teddy bear.
Nope, I’m going to find a 5th cousin to mooch off of. I have needs dammit.

Of course it is. Just no one can afford to live there

I am with you on the do not do it but for slightly different reasons. The only reason to do it is to gain some sort of bragging points. For something you did not do. Then pay for that privilege. Very little upside. I can think of better ways to spend 80 bucks. Most of them involve buying video games.
