MAME Phoenix shot sound still wrong -- maybe this can help?
#373778 - 02/08/18 07:24 AM

I know this issue has been brought up in the past, but it remains. The shot sound effect should sound more like a "bang" than a "woosh."

Recently I found this site, posted June 2016:

http://www.jammarcade.net/phoenix-repair-log/

They have repaired a Phoenix PCB, and what is particularly interesting are the two videos of the sound effects before and after fixing some things. They also offer some very technical info on how they fixed the sound. The shot sound in the final video is correct, as I remember it from many years ago:

I don't know if this would be at all helpful to someday improve the sound emulation of Phoenix in MAME, but thought it would be worth mentioning.

Blown up and shooting does sound clear on the video.

Shooting sound more like a gun on the video while shooting on MAME sound like vac sucking on plastic wrap or something.

Blown up sound stronger on the video. Just like bomb from a classic movie.

Gotta remember that the sounds are different coming out of MAME. Doesn't always matches from the real thing. What I am saying is lower pitch sounds vs heavy pitch sounds vs bad sounds.
