Wow! Didn't know ShouTime was behind it!
Congratulations and I wish him a lot of success!!!
We'll of course cover the platform extensively at Arcade Belgium! ;-)

If anything this just creates a conflict of interest IMHO.

The only way mame will ever emulate the hardware full speed is if an alien comes to earth and gives us new computer tech hundreds of years ahead of ours.

Maybe this technology exists and is used to simulate our world. We just have to find a way to access it.

I thought the claim that this was the first true PCB game released since 2012 meant it wasn't just a boring PC setup

I haven't seen the final hardware or understand how it works together. I know there is at least 1 custom PCB (io board). Maybe more.

most of the PC based ones have 'custom io boards'
that's about the only part of them those loader programs 'emulate'
actually I think at this point in time we've come full circle, and a PC based arcade platform is the worst thing you can have, because it doesn't matter what encryption or protection you throw on there, or what custom IO you have, it's easy to hack because it's just a PC, so if somebody gets hold of one, it ends up ripped and 'emulated' in no time. The only thing it protects against is MAME, and ensuring that in 15 years nobody can run it anymore because it's incompatible with whatever Windows / video drivers etc. we're using by then
running Linux buys you a bit, because nobody wants to install Linux just to run a few pirated arcade games, and running Linux in a VM to run games doesn't really give you the performance you need.

The savings from other aspects of it win the negotiations. You can't even get companies to program for custom hardware anymore. More expensive to program for, more expensive to produce the hardware, more expensive to port from custom to PC later on. Instead it's a kickoff to Steam sales of easy ports of arcade games. Like a movie in the theatre before you can stream it on netflix a year later.

I gave a try to Super Hydorah and it's pretty good.... but it's also hard as hell.... my god.
Maybe i'm getting too old for this stuff, just turned 38 and I grew up playing gradius and star soldier in the 80s.. but this new game kick my ass.

Of course you can. Nintendo and Apple are both making a ton of money getting people to program games for custom hardware.

They also spend a ton on R&D and are very valuable companies. They also don't make arcade games, the ones that do, do not have that kind of market cap.
