Donkey Kong ROM Cheats

Hope I'm not violating any rules by asking. I like the Donkey Kong ROM and play it on MameUI64. Under "cheats" there is an option for "always climb". I was hoping this was to enable the ability to climb a ladder by being under it and not having to push up on the joystick.

When I select this option, my player won't move. Frustrating. Anyone know about this?

Didn't try that cheat, but I suppose that it enables you to always climb ladders that can't be climbed periodically (Those appear in the second stage of each loop in the japanese rom, on the top of the level at both sides).
