Super Mario Bros standalone arcade machine - NOT a Playchoice 10?
#372128 - 12/21/17 04:10 PM

I used to hang around in Dayvilles arcade in Birmingham and convinced that there was an SMB machine downstairs that wasn't accessed via a PC10 interface.

I.e. it was a standalone SMB machine full screen.

Was this my imagination or was it only ever released as a PC10 game?

God, I miss those dark, musty arcades ....

almost certainly that

was also bootlegged a fair bit

the bootleg board would have had awful sound tho, they're actually using a Z80 and AY pretending to be the NES APU. I've actually not managed to hook it up correctly in MAME yet, presumably it just ignores some parts of the music as the number of inputs the Z80 reads vs. the number of APU writes in the unmodified sound code the game has don't match up.

That just got re-released officially for the first time by Nintendo and Hamster on Switch.

Just be aware that it includes some material from SMB2 as well as some balance adjustments and level tweaks to make it significantly harder.
