Is TeknoParrot discussion allowed?
#371926 - 12/15/17 05:46 PM

I realise it involves hacked about PC based games, so not really sure. However it has allowed RingEdge/RingWide/Europe-R and soon Lindbergh titles to be playable on Windows (despite being Linux-based?!) https://twitter.com/reaverteknogods?lang=en

it's hacking current PC based games for commercial gain basically..

I've even seen a number of sites refuse to cover it because they keep teasing latest games to get more people to donate for private builds..

so it would probably be best to not cover it

it's one of the darker sides of emulation, which seems to be making a full force comeback lately.

I guess without MAME to show people how things should be done in a fair way without trying to profit from it, it was inevitable (I say without MAME because MAME doesn't really handle newer platforms, and this approach would be unsuitable anyway)

the world could do with less of this bullshit.

I can see he does a Patreon thing, but that's just to get latest version 2 weeks early, so it's not essential to pay.

Curious to know how Lindbergh emulation works though. Linux emulator in Windows?

right, but when you're basically teasing people with the latest games, and asking them to pay to get access to the build that runs them it becomes a nice little money maker.

makes you realise how lucky you've been to have MAME, or at least it should. latest code is always there for everybody.

everybody new to emulation instead is just out to see what money they can make out of something instead these days... really sad.

Yeah, it's not the right way to do things, like the various closed-source emulators which died in the past.

I am thankful for MAME though! It's just nice to be able to also sample some of the more recent arcade games, which are rare to find in arcades these days.

it's not really an emulator, just a loader (hack protection, dongle & cie). Ring & Linbergh are PC based. Same as nesica/ttx1/2/bemani....
Only i/o is emulate in teknoparot.

Sorry for my poor english^^

I'm starting a Patreon page. People give more money to warez than real preservation.

BTW not a dis, just saying it fits the 20+ year definition of warez.

If anyone is in that community you could see if we could get pure dumps from them to archive in mame where they wouldn't work but we could get the dumps and then we wouldn't have to buy them.

Are the sceners people of 8ch's /1cc/? /1cc/ isn't exactly in good terms with TeknoParrot devs, they even had a sticky that they refuse to support them anymore.

They claim that their dumps are clean; they only use some kind of loader which allows us (PC players) to run those dumps (games) on WIN OS.
So, the dumps should do for MAME too.

Are they really unaltered hard drive dumps and not game rips with all OS files stripped. I'm bothered there isn't even a trusted datfile for those dumps (in fact there isn't any). You could be downloading a trojan without you realizing.

I am not defending or approving them, I just share what they claim. Someone more informed/educated than me, should be test these dumps - All I can say regarding these and other (Chinese dumps of PGM2) dumps is : I never caught any kind of virus/malicious software from them AFAIK.

and that was the reason that they calmed that he took code from other devs and "1cc's dumps"

Recent versions of Windows 10 have built-in Linux kernel emulation; you can install your choice of Ubuntu or Fedora user lands on top and it's basically just like real Linux.
