I was thinking the same thing. It would be expected that they'd run it through an emulator. That's pretty common practice now-a-days. I don't really look at this as a brilliant breakthrough lol

I think you're missing the point.
This isn't "shock, nintendo uses an emulator in virtual console".
It's "there has been a nes emulator with an embedded golf game, included in every release of the switch & it's not clear that it's ever used".
It would be interesting to find out if this is the emulator used for virtual console or whether they have their own emulator bundled with roms. Either way it's weird there is an unlaunchable golf game on every switch.

No, this is definitely "company that ships NES emulators in 4 form factors includes a beta on a 5th". Almost completely uninteresting, but game journalism is worst journalism.

A secret beta test is not news? It's only interesting because it's hidden & nobody knows how to run it.
Can you reveal how to run it on a retail switch?

Probably not possible given it isn't an installed app in any way. Just wait for Virtual Console to officially ship.

If you have to hack a console and disassemble the code to find it, then it's pretty well hidden.
That certainly explains the random launching that was reported a couple of months ago.

Virtual console is boring, it's just an emulator.

Granted re: disassembling the code, but now that someone has done a Don Hodges on it and figured out that it's essentially a user-triggerable event (though one that's admittedly date-dependent), it looks more like an Easter Egg to my eye based on the links B2K24 provided.
Whether or not it can or will be extended to do more than play Golf is another question (and I'd imagine it probably could), but either way it's still an interesting find.

Thank Bro.
Many years ago I remembered playing a gun game and could never remember the title. I even asked here (about ten years ago). Anyways from The complete history of Nintendo arcade games article, I found it. It right there in living color "Shooting Trainer." Crazy, now if someone can show me a photo of this early racing game I remember that would make my day. It was early, the early eighties (or late 70s). I think it was Monaco but it was small, like a pay phone, and it hung on a wall. Yes, a small arcade game that hung on a wall. What was it?
