MAME absolutely refuses to properly save my settings.

I want to disable that goddamn stupid bilinear filtering and change my renderer to OpenGL, and I do so, then I click "Save Configuration", then after I exit and open MAME again, my settings are erased! No one else seems to have this problem.

Have you tried running MAME as Administrator? On Windows right click the executable and instead of "Open" click on "Run as Administrator".

Right-click on mame.ini and select properties. Does the file say that it is read-only?
If it does, uncheck "read-only" and press ok. Then try to change that bilinear setting and save mame.ini again.

Where do you have the mame exe? Is it under Program Files? Windows won't let programs write to files in certain directories.
Try putting MAME in...
C:\mame0188\
...or something similar.

MY directory is "C:\Users\Sgt Jack V\Documents\MAME".
