Explorer still doesn't seem to be working

I downloaded the latest MAME, extracted it to my MAME folder, then got the Explorer ROM with the DECO Cassette ROM, but it still doesn't work. Maybe a clean install would fix that. EDIT: Still gives me an error.

MAME is generally really precise in telling you why something won't run. What error message are you getting? I'm assuming you're missing files it expects.

I'm not sure how to copy and paste the error message here, but it said something about ROMs like x1_made_in_japan_18.x1 missing.

As already guessed, it means the files from the pcb are still missing and are needed to play the game. The game requires roms from the pcb (dumped only weeks ago) and the file from the cassette that was dumped many years earlier. Most places probably only have files from the cassette....nothing from the pcb at this time.

so you're missing the roms..
I'm struggling to understand posts like the one you've made.
We specifically say a game is now working because missing roms were dumped, and yet people seem to think the romsets they've had for years should still work. I don't understand the logic there.
The same is happening with World Rally 2, people seem to think it's a terrible thing that MAME now requires a new rom for it to run, and are utterly confused by that concept, even if all the posts talking about it talk about how the previously missing rom was dumped and the game is now playable.
If MAME says roms are missing then roms are missing, it's not the most complex of things, and it's getting rather tiresome seeing people claim games are 'broken' in MAME just because they don't have the correct roms. Changes are often needed to move forwards.

I honestly thought Emuparadise had the latest ROMs, it didn't.

Go with a guess that after a recent release of MAME it might take from a few weeks to a month or so until a particular romset is updated on some site.
