looking backwards to 1999AD

For those that read Haze's update

https://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/2017/07/11/the-super-real-darwin-award/

Maybe some of you had noticed this in one of the Youtube clip channels since it appears when Haze described the last time the game was worked on was in 1999....before .36 final was released.

So I decide to watch this Philco-Ford Corporation film presentation for sake of it even though it was probably posted here in the past, but I may have missed the thread at the time.

1960s Vintage Film: The Home Of The Future: Year 1999 A.D.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RRxqg4G-G4

In 1967 the Philco-Ford Corporation released a short film titled 1999 A.D. In it the inevitable advances of the future are demonstrated. Some of the predictions seem to be right on while others appear to have been pulled straight from Star Trek.
--

It then comes to mind that I may have first seen this film presentation when either as a six or seven year old kid back during early 1970s. The part that stands out is the brown shaded tint on the kitchen appliance [oven or toaster whatever it is] when the housewife is preparing lunch dinner for the rest of the family.

I am pretty sure I saw this while at summer school during June or July in either 1971 or maybe it was 1972 or maybe 1973. I only watched a small part of it because I and other boys were throwing spitwads or paper trash at other boys on other side of the classroom and the other boys were returning fire. This was going on in the classroom while the lights were off and film was being played. Most of the kids and myself thought a lot of the stuff was farce back then.

Some of it was farce, but a fair amount is actually present, but maybe not the way the companies had envisioned back in 1960s. Some of it useful.

It is too bad what was not envisioned then is both climate change / global warming....maybe known, but wasn't considered important then unless in the climatology field. And the computer hacking and technology that is used in USA for counting votes needs to be reverted back to hand paper ballots and counted by hand. Blackbox voting style of elections needs to be done away with and transparency on all vote procedures so no cheating or accidental slip ups take place.

The one educational school film I wish I could find again shows some rich family in an enclosed house mansion setting where they think they can survive atmosphere pollution. This was made in late 1960s / early 1970s when smog and airborne pollution was horrible just like it is in today's China's major cities such as Beijing.

The film shows the wealthy family seated at a dining room table and they notice the crowd of onlookers standing outside in the air pollution. The wealthy family thinks they will do okay, and then a glass shatter sound is played and a brick mortar appears on the dining room floor of the wealthy family. The film's premise is to prove that everyone on the planet cannot elude pollution even if they think they will do okay in an enclosed protected environment. It's a lesson that Trumps/GOP/religion fundamentalists choose to ignore and want to revert everything [society/environment etc.] backwards while the rest of the enlightened planet would prefer to move forwards.

Well I think it was to the democrats back then actually, back when they had a spine before they started taking corporate money around 1979 and became whores for money. They pressured Nixon relentlessly into starting the EPA, so it was an issue.

I blame the DNCC or DCCC corporate part of the Democratic party since that started veering the Democratic party in to being a corporate group with a "Centrist" mentality. (ie: Republican-lite or what some describe corporate/old guard Republicans that aren't Tea Party types).

Yep. The pollution such as the noticeable ones (air or land pollution) were easily visible and talked about during 1960s and throughout 1970s and fortunately progress had been made over the years in some areas.

I don't recall climate change topics on TV or radio until about mid 1990's. The first time I had heard about it was maybe an early 1990s PBS NOVA episode iirc. Between the climate change topic versus the Y2K computer/software bug issue, it seemed Y2K got more attention since that was another noticeable issue compared to climate change.
