Setting up two players with two controllers in Mame?
#363988 - 03/01/17 11:22 PM

Probably a newbie question, but I have two controllers connected to my PC (xbox 360 and DS4). However, I can't seem to get both working in mame.

When I load a game like MS Pac Man, I enter the "input (this machine)" menu, and then bind P1 (up, down, left, right) to the DS4 and P2 (up, down, left, right) to xbox controller, yet only the DS4 works. It controls both players when starting a two player game? I've tried a few different games and get the same thing.

Is there something I'm missing?

btw, both controllers are connected and work under windows control panel.

Im running windows 10 and mameuifx64.

thanks

I gave this a shot earlier with 2 controllers.

To get it to work with ms pacman I had to set both controllers to use P1.

Wonder if the P2 controller stuff is for cocktail stuff?

You are right. I tried cocktail mode and both controllers worked independently. After some more digging online, it looks like games like ms-pacman, pacman, etc., that only had one joystick, only support one gamepad in upright mode.

I will bind both to p1, as you mentioned.

thanks again.

correct, if you think about it, that's entirely logical :-) Without hacking into the game code / memory of the machine, MAME has no idea of which player is playing, so can only do what the original machine did which is to support one stick.
