clawgrip got the cards for the Namco Barcode Boy, a barcode reader for the original Game Boy, and the five original Nintendo additional SmartMedia cards for the Nintendo64 game "Mario no Photopi".

MAME Dev Team will love to mess with those on MAME.

Weren't those Barcode Boy cards just regular paper cards with a barcode on 'em?
... Does this mean MAME is going to accept scanned images as dumps now?

Well, I'll cite part of whatsnew.txt from 0.176 that reads:
Code:
New NOT_WORKING software list additions --------------------------------------- gamate.xml: Volcano Panic [Juan Felix Mateos and Mr. Postman] gamate.xml: Hot Hero; Baseball [Peter Wilhelmsen] gba_ereader.xml: Starting work doing the GBA e-reader software-list [Shideravan]
So yes, they will probably convert bar codes to binary data and the image part will never be preserved just like no-intro.

I was kinda hoping the images would be preserved along with the barcode.
(Maybe even as part of the romset, and no that isn't a joke.)

I don't really know anything about this situation but there needs to be a new type of official artwork added that this could fall into, which is official artwork that isn't called, sort of like a pal dump that just loads for now but isn't used by the emulation. For example, collecting scans of the collector cards that games spit out for Dino King type stuff. It needs to start getting preserved and there's nowhere else to put it. Eventually they will be used in the emulation but for now probably best to have an artwork file that just has the pngs and isn't loaded.
