In case you thought I wasn't practical-minded....
#361240 - 12/14/16 06:59 AM

So the other day I happned upon this article on this dude who thinks he has a new theory of consciousness. He's a research dude at MIT or something, so it ain't some je-helio-bob mother fucker just sayin sumpm.

Seemed an interesting idea. I was interested in whether there might be something useful in it. Or, rather, useful to anyone. Apparently not. He did respond to the initial query, but when I pressed about possible application, especially to the average person, he didn't say no-thin.

Wouldn't they... er, "they" just say whatever about it like they do for NDEs? "It's all in the mind, and people that think they experience it, since they have similar stories, it must be something hardwired into the human mind, and therefor it must be fake 'cause science bitch, u can't prove god" etc. etc........?

Double negative. Now I'm intrigued.

You mean, I may've made up the whole thing? I didn't think anybody would be interested in the concept, but here you go. I read The Atlantic article. I emailed him directly.

No I meant, why post about your reaction to something, adding only an extremely vague description of what it was? You might as well be talking to yourself.

I didn't think anybody would be

Then why the hell post about it in the first place.

How can anyone care about how you reacted to something that happened to you, if you don't talk about what it was?

Because of its nature. I described the type of scenario - a likely familiar one - that's enough. It wasn't a reaction. It was research. He reacted.
