Daytona never left, at least in Australia. At $2 per game (2 credits to start) it was never going to disappear.
Yes, Australian arcades were retarded and used $1 coins in place of the identically-sized US quarters, usually without the operators bothering to change the settings to reflect the vastly different coinage (profit!!!)

Australia has a shady history with arcade games. Some ex-LAI employees could write some interesting articles about it.

not really, those things tend to be one of the first things people break (usually intentionally) so making sure it works without one will probably be good for operators.
we don't have that level of culture where the machines actually get looked after over here, instead people just see breaking them as a challenge.

some peoples played & reviewed Daytona 3 on youtube and they all says that it's a pretty bad title unfortunately.
still.... hopefullly a pc port will appear someday.

Well the one thing that made it a deal breaker for me was the decision to go from an H-pattern shifter to a sequential one. That sucks big time and strips the authenticity of the Daytona name IMO. Plus the graphics are nothing to write home about.
