Why president polling is now horseshit

They are calling people at home to get the numbers. So that means everyone contributing still has a home land line and secondly, answers calls from 800 numbers. What kind of a sane person does that in 2016.

You can / have been able to buy home phones that do that since the 1980s, but I guess some people use phones that don't. But more importantly, literally everyone has a cell phone so unless you have a really niche reason to still use an additional landline, virtually nobody does anymore. I don't know anyone with a landline. I think even my 64 year old mother got rid of hers a couple of years back.

I got rid of our landline a while back. The caller ID was always spoofed by telemarketers. I never picked up the phone unless I knew the number. They never left messages either.

Yeah the "no caller ID" would come up. Same deal, nobody sane would ever pick that up. So the "official polls" in 2016 like I was saying, complete and utter shit. Trump very well might win, nobody has any frigging idea whatsoever, all the polls are totally useless.

Since the 80s?.....

I recall (hahah) caller ID was a 90s things.
Lots of people have landlines. My folks do. My mom has a tendency to misplace things, so it's better if she's tethered. I think most people in my neighborhood have landlines.

Late 80s or early 90s, makes little difference to the point.

That would be another difference then I guess. I literally haven't had dial-up internet since 1998 and I've lived in...6 states since then.

He doesn't have dial-up, he has ADSL2+ or similar. Although it nominally doesn't use the same frequencies as POTS, you can get weird impedance matching problems and stuff with multiple phones on the same copper pair.

I didn't know it screwed up DSL like that, I just expected a few KB of bandwidth.
At any rate the people in the US with a brain and no reason for 2 phone lines aren't using home land lines or they aren't picking up for polling people. So that makes it more likely that a bigger majority of people participating in polls are for Trump. He gets the no-college vote.

I use Ooma with the premium service that lets you black list numbers, there's even a large database of blocked numbers... I pay a little extra for the premium service, but the basic is pretty much free (other than paying taxes).
The only charge I have is from my local phone company for the dry DSL line/high speed internet service. So, it's like having my old land-line, just with way more control over who can call me.
Now. If I could just find a way to have free, or way cheaper high-speed internet, that'd be ideal.

In my experience, that happens only with dial-up, though it rarely happened to me. Happened to my parents all the fucking time till they got cable net.
