Formative experiences - AKA: I found them!
#358553 - 09/11/16 10:44 PM

So I was looking up Used Cars.....and in the google suggestion pane up top it had.....THESE:

I think I was supposed to be asleep by this time at the drive-in, but managed to catch a bit of it. It's probably pretty tame now, but at four or five, maybe six, it was pretty disturbing.

Then there was this, a couple/few years later, which I caught on regular TV late at night on CBS. The mad AI bit was a little scary, but the female impregnation thing was absolutely bizarre and mortifying.

Gerrit Graham was in all of these, that's the connection. I actually asked here years ago about Phantom of the Paradise, but no one had a clue. Knowing the story now, I can see why.

I think I saw Demon Seed on late-night television some time in the early 80s when I was in my early teens. I remember finding it very scary and somewhat upsetting, similar to the first time I saw Alien. I probably should go back and re-watch it as an adult.

Here's another film I watched on late-night TV as a kid that kind of freaked me out...

That is 70s sci-chadelic theatre. The basic storyline I was thinking of Empire of the Ants. The trailer is trip-out city, apparently trying to be smart in some places as well. Malzberg seems familiar, but I'm pretty sure I haven't read anything of his. (EotA was kinda scary in the early around '80-82, but watched it in the last year and pretty much laughed my ass off.)

Alien is basically a monster movie. I always found the adult backdrop...and certainly Bishop...more interesting.

Bishop was in the first sequel, "Aliens". The 'droid in "Alien" was Ash.

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jeez.

On that note, Bishop was way cool. I would've been his homie.
